How do YOU cope with understeer on the S2?
Discussion
Understeer is the only gripe I have with the S2. Since being on the 1 day course up at Hethel I'm much more confident with the lift off oversteer technique but it does bug me a little that you have to work so hard to get the back end out. I suppose it's something I'll learn to deal with more effectively once I am more experienced (only had the car for 4 months) but I was wondering whether anyone had stuck some wider wheels on the front to reduce/eliminate understeer. Has it worked as you expected? Do you prefer it?

I went for slightly wider fronts (185/50R16 vs. 175/55R16) and had the geo set to a more 'agressive' setup.
Even with the normal wheels it should give much more front end 'bite' than the standard settings.
Try running the front with -1° camber (usually that's the max you can reach with an S2), set the front to 0"15° toe OUT total for both wheels.
The rear camber is OK (around -2° standard), but set the tracking to 0"30° toe IN TOTAL as well.
This will give more tyre wear at motorways, but it will grip a lot more in the corners.
Bye, Arno.

You will get used to the way the Elise S2 drives. Frankly I prefer it to the S1 which did understeer as well, but with the S1 I found that when you did get the back to unstick, then it could spin.
In the dry it is virtually impossible to make the S2 spin. Because of this you can lean harder into the corners knowing you are not going to get a shock.
I would vote for keeping the original tyres on it. Remember the handling is different in the wet and before you make any changes you ought to live with it a bit more.
