I think Electric windows and Central locking are'nt too bad really.

Electric windows can be as light as a manual system (although I don't know Lotus's weights)

Central locking deals with the security issues that some people have with the car - I for one wuold like to be able to lock my doors whilst driving in some of the dodgier areas of london!

Lotu's main problem is that they ditched the M250 which would have destroyed the Boxster and now they're trying to attack it using the wrong weapon. The Elise can out handle the boxster but for day to day use most people would choose a Boxster or a Z4.

My gf's dad just bought a 111S and it is very plush compared to my standard Mk1 but its still quite raw when compared to its "rivals"

The new toys are options - you don't have to buy them.

Well said. Lotus need three cars in their range.

Level 1: Any of the current Elise variants. Offered with selection of I4 engines up to 280bhp+. Essentially a weekend/trackday toy with just enough refinement to be a daily-driver for the truly devoted. That will help keep the price down in the £20k-£30k range.

Level 2: Mid-sized, perhaps based on a scaled-up Elise chassis offered with option of 280bhp+ I4 or 350bhp+ V6. In other words - a slightly larger, more powerful Elise with more creature comforts and sound-proofing. Price £30k-£40k depending on options. Boxter/Z4-killer.

Level 3: Esprit Replacement. Offered with options of 425bhp+ V8 or 350bhp+ V6. £45k-£75 depending on options. Compare to various TVR, Noble, Porsche offerings.

Well, if you know someone with deep pockets, let's go talk to 'em.

We'll buy Lotus from Proton (who obviously don't really know what to do with this amazing asset they've got) and hope your mate has a few million left over to give a much-needed cash injection into their R&D department. I'll be the MD and my first act will be to appoint you director of road-testing.

BTW, my first act as MD of Lotus would be to try to explain to the boys in Norfolk that not everyone is built like Colin Chapman and will they PLEASE stop designing their cars (and especially the pedals) to fit the late, great man.

People can say what they like about TVR's build-quality but at least a chap my size (6'/14st and Size 10 feet) can fit in Peter Wheeler's cars and not feel like a grownup sitting at the kids' table as I did when driving an S2 Elise.

Ah yes, but wehn I test drove an Elise S1, had to pull the seat fully forward, to reach the pedals! (5' 6" 11st)or maybe I'm not used to the driving position.

Also people don't buy elise's for the creature comforts an interior.

As new Marketing Director for ex-Proton Lotus, I would like to point out that you are all correct. Customer is always right. Just drive one first and everything else will come into perspective. I have a 155bhp Kawasaki zzr1100 - and I can scare people more easily in my Elise. Could just be my driving though, or perhaps the fact that I only carry limp wristed hairdressers as passengers.......

I'm 6', 14-and the rest-stone and have size 10 feet and fit very nicely in my S1 and I don't think the interior is much different to the S2. Horses for courses I suppose.....
