would a cat by-pass and MIL thingy be a better solution than a sports cat?

The janspeed with a CRP is blooming loud. And you can hear everything going on in the engine. A friend of mine had this setup for a couple of days and I was driving behind once, and i was cringing at the sound. I also don't think it would pass some decibel checks at certain tracks.

Hi
I fitted the Janspeed alone then a week later fitted a PTP motorsport cat. Sounds great IMHO and also you have no worries at MOT time or no warning light issues.
You can try PTP direct or Eliseparts .com
Good luck

I tried a CRP ...it lasted a week ! I do 30K miles a year for work and the noise was just too intrusive - I now have a flexi sports cat to go with the Piper 4-2-1 solid manifold.

Power gains are around the same - 2 to 4bhp (even though PTP claim 6bhp for their sports cat)

If you think the Janspeed is loud, try it with a CRP - it seems that nearly twice as loud !

PTP sports cat is around £240 + 1 hour fitting at www.sinclairebodyshop.co.uk (NE London area) ...plus as said above, no hassles at MOT time

I should apologise, I'm comparing with 340R with CBP & titanium exh. where it's all noisy & 'outside' anyway but I'm intrigued on the difference in noises & people's perceptions. (and very envious of wherever Tonykart was in the pics)

Hong Kong, Clearwater Bay country club.

Yesterday I drove another S2 111S with a Janspeed while my mate drove my car with the Tubi. The main difference as the driver is the Tubi sound does not resonate thru the cabin. The Janspeed was very deep and boomy and you could feel it thru your entire body. I have a feeling the Tubi has had a lot more tuning work take place in it (hence the blooming mortgage to buy one).

From behind (ooer) the Tubi sounds very "sharp" with not much boom but a fair amount of bass. Sounded a bit like a Ferrari but without the high pitched V8.

The Janspeed just sounded loud and bassey (if that's a word). I have to say that the Janspeed did not make the engine sound very nice, just loud.

I was trying to be unbiased as possible, and I know the janspeed is 250 quid compared to the 1000 quid for the tubi but I have to agree with the old adage "you get what you pay for".

Admittedly, when I first installed the Tubi I was worried cos it sounded very quiet with not much defined sound, but after 150kms, it's definitely getting more "tuned".

Dude, its impossible to be unbiassed when you spent 4x on it Sure its nice though, and I agree the Janspeed doesn't have a particularly civilised tone.

hard....not impossible

i know to some it's pretty hard (again not impossible)to justify spending 1000quid on an exhaust but to put that into perspective:

my car cost 35,200 pounds (expensive stuff in HK)
exhaust cost 1,000 pounds. that's only 2.8% of the cost of the car.

i spend 30 quid a week on petrol or roughly 1,400 quid a year. i spend 2,300 pounds a year on parking, 1,300 quid on insurance. added up, that's 5,000 quid PER YEAR on consumables. of course that's excluding servicing and spare parts etc.

makes me think 1,000 quid on a beautiful piece of kit that sounds great and lasts years is not such a bad deal afterall....and people often spend the same amount on their car stereo too...

Good point about the comparing ICE to the exhaust..

Janspeed, civilised? WTF if you dont want rude and obnoxious then fit a standard exhaust again or buy a vx220 you big blouse

tonytubi=tonykart lol? Talk about loyalty.

I guess I'm just unconvinced that the tubi is twice as good as a B&C - hell you could have a custom exhaust made for half that too!

The margin on aftermarket parts for the Elise is particularly low compared to other sports cars, and tubi being a ferrari orientated company haven't really taken that on board (imho) so I'm guessing they are taking a lot more profit per exhaust.

Still I don't doubt it sounds nice, they look like they make things properly. Always nice to know you didn't compromise too

Just to add to the mix, I had Bruce at Rag Top Roadsters - www.med-reg.co.uk/about.htm - fit a Piper Flexi CRP to my S2 last night (hurricane and Janspeed) and it's now waaay more fun! Gone is the boomy drone and adds a lovely harsh edge plus more burble and pops.

Certainly glad I didn't attempt the job myself using wheel ramps! Bruce did a top job and fixed up a few dealer (to remain nameless) bodges. So if anyone's not quite in reach of Sinclairs darn sarf then I'd totally recommend Bruce nr Macclesfield, Cheshire.

Surely dealers that "BODGE" things should be named and shamed ?? They dont DESERVE business if they are not prepared to do a proper job !!!

Would love to but that goes against the posting rules of this forum and so I'd prefer not to cause Ted any potential hassle.
