The deed is done.. http://groups.msn.com/ELISEREPUBLIC/tubithedefinitiveexhaust.msnw?albumlist=2

Initial reports are:

Nice and deep sound with no cabin intrusion. Makes the car sound more "mature". Definitely nicer sound (IMHO) than the Janspeed.

The pipes look fantastic. Nice and big, nice and shiny and they have a "lip" going round the end which makes it really standout.

Was very worried when I start her up because I thought it'd be REALLY loud and obnoxious but it was not at all. We all stood there and were really surprised how smooth the sound is. All the talk about how Tubi "tune" the sound in the exhaust is true.

Can't say much more until it's bedded in which takes a little while and in my experience, tubis get louder and deeper with time.

cheers

tony

ps manu, you're THE man...thanks for customizing this for me....

After it stops smoking and smelling like your car is on fire

Sound also changes when you get a bunch of heat into it..

Mine definitely sounds more 'agressive' after a track day or a long fast run than when it's cold.

Still not bothersome inside the cabin though, which I like a lot.

Bye, Arno.

I hope it helped..

Especially taking off the rear wheel helped me a huge amount to undo the old bolts and get enough leverage with my breaker bar.(and finding the right lenght extention to undo the 'inside' nut..)

The one on the site is actually a different one than I now use. This was a first trial version and needed a little adjustment here and there. I now have one that fits very well.

Just curious.. What type of clamps were used on your exhaust to connect the end-pipes to the silencer body?

On mine these are zinc-plated clamps and they are starting to rust pretty badly now (salt on the roads during winter here and I drive the car all year round)

Trying tou source some stainless steel ones at the moment..

Bye, Arno.

Yeah, the wheel off trick made about a 2 hours difference! Even put my wheel under the body too...

The clamps are zinc coated I think. Also, did you find it difficult to get the pipes onto the silencer? Talk about a tight fit. Only just managed to do it and then clamped them up.

The sound is changing already, and I recognise the special sound on a tubi can give in tunnels. Very nice sound when your slightly on throttle at 3000rpm...and then the sound stays the same all the way to redline.

Extremely well engineered piece of kit. And the new tip design is amazing.

This specific type of clamp only seems to come in zinc-plated. Have asked around a bit already..

Only 'U' style clamps seem to come in stainless, but so far I haven't seen them in this size yet.

Yup. Pretty tight. I just used a good dose of copper grease and a little controlled force to get them in place.

Bye, Arno.

It is quite nice is'nt it, although it was about 34 degrees and 90% humidity...hence the industrial fan...

Here's the finished result...
