put key in ignition.
turned it - one clicking sound..... now all electrics are dead.

last time it did this it recovered in a 10 seconds, but sadly not this time.

any suggestions?

S1 - in front of the passenger's feet (accessed under the front hatch, under the washer bottle)
S2 - ?

Sorry to ask the obvious - but you did disable the alarm/immobiliser first?

The S1 battery will not start the car after about two weeks standing if the alarm is set. Trickle/top-up chargers are recommended if the car is not used regularly.

If you do need to fit a new battery, please take a look at the archives on here and on the Lotus BBS. IIRC battery replacement is not totally straightforward with an Elise.

It sounds like your battery is dead. It's in the front compartment on the passenger side.

disabled the alarm as usual.
it felt as though a cable had come off the battery - had to get to work, so no time to investigate.

last time it did this it started as usual a couple of seconds later, which makes me think it's not the battery, but I'll check it later when I get back from work.

Umm not sure on an elise but my dads car used to do this and it was solved by replacing the Solenoid.

A flat battery would be lots of clicks as the solenoid operates but the battery hasn't the power to do anything else.

I'd go with faulty solenoid too.

I'm glad to hear it was something simple.
