Went to local Classic Car Show tonight at Renishaw Hall, Derbyshire - directed to 'Show Area' instead of public parkin'. Can't believe interest in Exige!! - adjacent Testarossa annd 308gtb owners were well jazzed off as kids, wifes, g/fs and hubbies surrounded me car!! - and I thort it was just me that thort it was drop dead gorgeous .

On a more sombre note why do folk spend thousands on restoring Allegros, Marinas, Spitfires and other crap cars????

Im singing in the rain

'cos we're too poor to buy a 'proper' car. Oh, and we can use our beards to polish them.

I'm currently restoring a Spitfire to use as a hillclimb/sprint car and I wouldn't class it as crap. It may not have the kudos of my Elise but it's still great fun to drive.

I agree that 10k to restore a sh*t brown allegro is a daft but if it makes someone happy.......

My mate had an ancient marina when I was at college - it was a hoot - it handled like a plate of porridge with the 'novel' torsion bar suspension.

The whole thing was held together with glass fibre patches - I can't believe we used to travel in it at speed...it is quite scary thinking back...

You're right though - can't fathom why anyone would want to restore one.

Sorry for in yer face comments, no offence meant - I've owned all above mentioned cars and enjoyed 'em, but was pleased to move them on. Point I was trying to make was that the resto costs represent money down the drain on most cars and you could buy a better motor with the money. I know I've spent circa £15k on resto a +2 Elan thats worth £5k? tops

Point taken and am wearing sackcloth and ashes now - orig post written under influence of 2 bottles of Sainsbury's best..

I guessed that... it was the "I'm singing in the rain" that you signed off with that gave it away.
