I'm about to buy a Mk 2 Elise and I'm wondering what kind of spec is most likely to hold it's value. I understand the differences between the Race tech and the Sports tourer packages but there seem to be quite a few out there that are just standard models and have a good selection of the custom options available without actually going for either of the packages. Would one of these potentially be less desirable to a buyer in the future?

hi, i just bought my elise a few days ago... although it was a mrk 1, the people i bumped into, like me who were about to buy one only had one preference really.

all they (and me) wanted was a 111s. why are you thinking of resale value? if thats a real issue, why not consider the new z4?

not much in it really - the aftermarket value varies by around £500-£1000 depending on version/options.

I would go for a sports tourer as they were the most popular - very few Race-Techs or std (optioned) cars sold

You are compleately right. I was having the same conversation with a friend last night and came to the conclusion that it doesnt matter what colour it is or how much I can sell it for in the future the main thing is how much fun I have in it.
It was going in to a dealer that made me start thinking about resale value really because they were advising against cirtain colours Etc as they might affect the resale value. I think I'll just go for the fastest laudest thing i can find.

In my opinion its always best to buy the standard car......lotus normaly include some chargeable extras anyway and when you approach your local dealer for the extras in most cases they are cheaper after purchase???? not mentioning buying the parts OEM!

I have a racetech - not that I actually chose my car, just go it by jumping waiting list. The list of 'wonderful extras' you get did make me laugh a huge amount.

Especially when it included things like 'black painted brake calipers' - ooh, well Im so glad I paid for them!

Id get standarad and just th bits you want too.

I had a chat with a dealer recently, and as I understand it, since new standard options were introduced at the beginning of this month (i.e. central locking, leccy windows, cargo net etc) you can longer get the race tech option pack. He also said that 90% of the new lizzies they are selling these days are 111s' or sports tourers. Food for thought.
