Got back last night from my second visit to Le-Mans, FIRST in a Lotus (EliseMK2,black,black wheels) what can i say WOW!, anyone who has a lotus should try it, NO fixed speed cameras, and beautiful long open roads, saw loads of TVRs and Porsches, No Esthi unfortunately. Highlight was getting my girlfriend trained in the art of safe overtaking at 100mph (which we know feels like a 130 in an elise) on a long single-lane stretch from Le-Mans to La ferte Bernard, got her pysched up - just as a blue Ferrari 355 blasted past, this unerved her a bit, but seconds later she pulled out to overtake a trundling(90mph) Peaugot driver, AT THE EXACT moment as my girlfiend pulled up alongside to pass, A HUGE ORANGE monster roared by on the only bit of road left, it was a MURCIELAGO chasing the 355, my girlfriend was speechless and has since given up overtaking!

One last thing have only had the car a month but have been very impressed with the cars stability at high speeds it seems to get sucked to the road the faster you go 100 seems better than 80mph for instance, does the diffuser create ground affect?

Anyone else got any Le-Mans stories?

The drive down is as much fun as being there isn't it?
I've only been once, in 1997. Still recovering from the psychological damage of being woken up early on the sunday morning to the sound of a my company of the time's marketing director burping and vomiting right outside my tent for half an hour. I was already feeling delicate but I managed to maintain control. It was my worst night's camping ever though!

I was passengering in a TVR wedge which was an absolute hoot. There was so much overtaking going on, there were too many near misses for my liking - the worst was performed by the MD in his friends Supercharged Mercedes, four up. They were inches from hitting a boat on a lorry head on.

no way!

Actually, you couldn't have missed seeing that boat if you went to Le-Mans that year, it was HEUUUUGE! A mercedes full of hungover brits wouldn't have slowed it's progress at all.

The best Le-Mans story I've read is here:

I went a couple of years ago and on the way down we saw a guy in an XJ overtaking a column of traffic towards the brow of a hill. Little old lady in a Clio comes over the hill so he goes half onto the verge on the wrong side of the road and keeps going - nutter!

Huges amounts of beer and camped next to a group of guys advertising themselves as the T W A T S who all had lovely cars and knew how to have a good time.

Only spoilt by the weather. Must do it again some time though - in the Elise.

Yeah lot of proof that people with nice cars still can't drive for shit. Overtaking around a corner or over a hill at 130 ain't funny.
