For those of you unlucky enough to be affected by corroded footwells this is the latest on the lotus site......

Thanks Cuzza,

I just lifted the mats in my car at the weekend - only to find 1/2 bag of flour - now I know what to do!

One day my car will be perfect and I will have sorted all the defects/problems.....

I followed those instructions yesterday afternoon and found that I couldn't remove 90% of the marking. There is still a lot of white residue and black staining on the alloy, with some large lumps too! I don't think water and my limited elbow grease are up to the job so it still loooks nearly as bad as when I lifted the mats. I took before and after pictures and will post them when I get them off the camera.

What about an angle grinder? Always works for me when extra 'elbow grease' is required!

That was a joke - don't do it!

[Before I read the instructions!] I found a paint scraper [gently does it though!] did the trick quite neatly to clear the reside. Doesn't give you a particularly good finish (I guess that is what happens with corrosion), but gets rid of most of the lumps/powder. As it is going to be covered by the mats anyway I guess it isn't that big a deal?

That should be fine, it's not as if your going to rip the metal away with the corrosion so I wouldn't worry but after reading what's on the Lotus site I'd just clean it up for now and see if they come up with a method of clearing it fully.

This should be covered by the 7 year corrosion warranty on the chassis, so why the hell are lotus asking people to do it themselves?

I know it sounds like quibbling but seriously...

They're asking us to take action to halt the process while they find a permanent and totally effective solution - which may take some time. We just need to be patient and follow their instructions - no point quibbling over half an hour's work to keep your baby healthy.
