First rule for ladies on PH - BEWARE OF MUNGO!

As far as the car goes, how far along buying one are you? Dreaming about it, Thinking seriously about it, found a car etc?

AlunR, just what do you mean?

I'm getting quite concerned here Mungo - You appear to be spending far too much time in the Elise forums...

not tempted are we?

THE CAR MUNGO, NOT JOSEPHINE!

I suggest getting along to PistonFest and meeting up with some enthusiastic owners and having a proper prod around the cars. I spent months umming and ahhing about wether to get one or not then as soon as I got to borrow one for a weekend I realised all my worries were completely unfounded.

Oh and they're quite practical/economic too just to give yourself some more reasons to buy one

Hi Jo,

Are you looking for an S1 or S2? What's your budget? If you want peace of mind, you should consider buying from a dealer or Lotus specialist. This will cost though and you shouldn't really bother with a dealer warranty.

You'll get a much better deal buying privately but get it checked by someone who knows their way round an Elise (NOT the AA!). Test drive as many as you can and don't rush.

"Buying a car is very much like making love to a beautiful..." oh wait, that doesn't work!

Anyway, get in touch with some local owners, get along to an Elise run and I'm sure you'll have no trouble blagging a passenger ride.

mungo said: Maybe - Think it will have to be a 160 with sports exhaust though or another Caterham - Probably the later to be honest with you mate

160 will put a smile on your face and its quite a different driving experience IMO. Not better just different probably due to the mid-engined layout. Plus your passengers don't set fire to their legs when they get out of an elise

Maybe not but they *do* have to be careful not to slip in the puddle of leaking coolant.

Hi Josephine

best bet is to get along to your local Lotus club pub meet where you can see the cars and talk to the (very friendly) owners all night over a few beers.

If you goto the Elise General BBS on www.british-cars.co.uk you'll find announcements about runs/meets in your area and also the best FREE Lotus club www.seloc.org - get registered on the BBS over there - its free and you can be an associate member until you get your Elise.

Other than that feel free to ask any specific questions !

good buyers guides here too www.elises.co.uk www.elise-faq.com

Hi Jo

I bought my S1 in March and havent stopped grinning since!

Best bit of advice I got was try & find one with a hardtop as well as soft top so you can use it all year round.

Bought mine 2nd hand from a dealer. Test drove a couple, enjoyed the first but totally fell in love with the second....so what else could I do??

Agree with Alun, is practical and economical. However the boot space is pretty small (especially when the soft top is in it) but that just means I have to drive it to the bottle bank/shops more often

Go for it - you wont regret it!!!

Josie you'll love a Liz , Sister-in-Law has an X reg Azure Blue - she loves it to bits - not to mention conversation starter with blokes (and women!).. If buying S/H make sure you have a clued up expert to give it the once over.

Good luck you couldn't choose a better car (so long as its a good 'un)..

Ok, so it's been a long day . . .

www.elise-faq.info

Buy one I say, I did 3 years ago and still love it, been to europe camping in it for 3 weeks last year, away most weekends also, plenty practical, 40mpg, cheap to run, cheap to maintain (find a decent specialist) . . . exactly what Lotus intended . . . it's not the fastest, but by god those who 'get' the elise have the biggest smiles on their faces . . . :-)
