hi, im just about to buy an elise (sunday...woo hoo)

however, i love my music...on mini-discs. does anybody have such a system? ideally it would have to play MDLPs and so be a sony system. also what about speakers? i read the other thread but am still unsure. i listen to bass-heavy music so what should i do?

thank you very much...the 'star

Not in an Elise - but I have a Kenwood KMD-673R, which is one of the few headunits that supports MDLP. Better made and a nicer product overall than the Sony unit I had before.

Approx £180 from caraudiodirect.co.uk.

hey sjg,

what do you make of the sony minidisc (black panel at £399?)

im afraid to say im quite brand-loyal (quite sad really) so i'd rather buy a sony.

seems good though, but a bit much!!

cheers

Bought mine with a Sony MD player in. Player is fine, speakers are woeful and can't even have the Extrabass switch on.Thinking of changing speakers and getting a sub. This apparently works very well.

sub? what size and make are you thinking of?

boot is awfully small as it is!!

i thought about it, but will probably go for some uprated speakers (should have a similar effect).

a trip to halfords' ripspeed methinks!!

Sinclaires do a nice solution with a Pioneer bass tube on the rear shelf in the S1 - sounds pretty good if you have a decent head unit and upgrade the speakers. Also put some wadding behind them and some Dynamat on the plastic surround.

If you want to go the whole hog and get a really decent stereo then they also offer custom installs - they did mine - pics here...120dB inside the car

I put my stuff in myself. Took no time at all. Brand new Clarion MP3 835 head unit. Phoenix gold tantrum speakers and clarion active sub woofer. Installed the subwoofer on the rear parcel shelf (S2 111S) and routed the cables along the passenger side sill under the plastic. Don't know if you can get the 835 in the UK yet, fresh out of japan.

Why do you want to go for MD btw? I used to have MD and switch to MP3 CDs because you can fit around 10 albums on one.

Anyway, my setup cost about 800 squid, no labour cos I did it myself.

I've got a Bass Tube thingy I took out of My S1 on Monday - Works quite well but I need the space more.

I'll post details on Tuesday when I get back from Le Mans

dont know, just like mini-discs. all my favourite tracks are on them and i can squeeze around 400 minutes onto one disc. ok, its not 10 albums but i think that much music is pointless.... trying to find a track on an album, whilst driving?

also its really easy to record/edit/manipulate mini-discs.

cheers for the base-tube idea though

Just what i have to say, good unit, got mine coupled to a 10 Disc CD changer as well, for more variety, never had any problems with it, pity about only one preout though. Powers my system fine, Helix Titanium 6" Coaxials, Alpine 6 x 9's and a ROckford Fosgate HE 2 Punch 10" sub, powered by Soundstream Granite 110 amp. Again not in an Elise but the Head unit is decent enough to power the speakers by themselves with good sound quality. It also has a colour change facitlity!

Yes, I've got a Kenwood mask CD in mine and would like an MD. Email me via my profile and we'll see if we can sort something out.

Cheers

I have a Sony MD player which I installed from my old car - the only inconvenience in the Elise is having to cart the MD wallets round everywhere (they would undoubtedly be liberated if I left them in the car when the roof is off).

So - I'm about to change the head unit to something with a line in - so then I can use my Apple iPod mp3 player. I'll then have 2000 songs available without having to carry round a whole load of inconvenient media. Might be a worth considering?
