does anyone know, are shells claims of performance for using optimax true? i know it has a higher octane rating, but as i understand it, the engine would need to be set up to make use of it

so does it make any difference to an elise?

In one word - no !

there is no knock sensor on the Elise therefore no benefit of running Optimax...unless you want the 'cleaning properties'

I know of a couple of cars that have Emerald prog ECs fitted that are mapped for 98 RON - thats the only way you will take advantage of it...even then its a couple of bhp

I run my Elise on any 95ron from any garage - its a Rover K series after all

Hi,
Currently running an audi but soon to be come an elise owner (see my other post!)I tend to put Opitmax in mine car if I can becasue my car does have a knock sensor and therefore it can self adjust to the higher octane levels.

I know on a car like the Elise where there is no knock sensor then thee is litle point in running Optimax the whole time as the engine can't take full advantage. I would however run 1 in every 5 tanks on Optimax then you give the engine a good old clean up etc.

Evo magazine did a test and proved that Opyimax need make a measureable difference to engine deposits.

seen several independent studies which show it does have an impressive engine cleaning component.

Oddly enough, I have found that i get 30 miles more out of a tank of optimax than out of standard. I have trialled this one to death and it definitely is the case though I can think of absolutely no reason why it would...ad it certinaly isnt a claim shell make!
