Hi guys,

Your advice please, this will be my MAIN car and will be used all year round and do about 20,000 miles a year. I have a large garage so storage isn't aproblem but obviously want to now what you guys think of your elises regarding running them as a main car, parts, servicing and using them in winter!

All advice welcomed, I just like the smile factor they give me, got about 16k to spend and seen quite a few in dealers at that price.

Do it!

My S1 is my only car and does about 12,000 miles. Servicing is fine but be prepared for the occasional unexpected high bill if you are unlucky (I've had to spend £1500 in the last two months due to Head Gasket failure and MOT failure).

The grin factor makes it all worthwhile!

This has been asked loads of times in the past

Basically - yes if you are happy with the tiny boot and cramped interior.

The mileage isnt a problem - the cars are better for it IMHO.

DO IT!

Try a fes specialists for your Elise - they'll be cheaper than dealers and you often get better service from them.

Whereabouts are you? I'm sure we can reccomend some specialists

Can you recommend any good specialists in the Colchester (essex) area? I'm having to drive to Stratton Motors (Norfolk) when I need work done on the car. ta.

DO IT.

Seriously if you can live with a relatively small boot then go ahead. I find the boot big enough for a weekend away with Mrs CVP, others have managed to get enough in for a week away!

If you love to drive then the Elise could be a really good choice. I've not had as much fun behind the wheel for a long time. There's something on each journey to make you grin, it only takes a small series of corners to bring a grin to your face.

I've only had mine about 8 weeks but have put just under 2,000 miles on it already It's just so much fun.

I can only agree with everyone else. Buy one or you will regret it.

I've been from cardiff to Wokingham and back today and it was bloody great, even sat on the M4. 235 miles with the roof off (I did spot a Norfolk Mustard S1 by Junction 17 with the roof on - own up if your on here!) and it was great. I felt so sorry for all the reps in their Mundano's.

I also saw another Norfolk Mustard S1 in Wokingham being driven by a rather nice looking young lady who waved to me. As soon as I saw it I thought bloody hell I hope my car looks as good as that. When she turned off at a roundabout I found myself looking over my shoulder just to get another look at it.

4 months and the buzz of owning one still hasn't gone.

I agree with last comment, an Elise is a car which makes your life better. Common symptons include not being able to stop driving them, i've had mine 2.5 months and done 2000 miles (its a second car too). Its great when you keep looking round when you've parked up thinking "god thats a good looking car".

Wilsons of chadwell heath seem ok too by all accounts, and aren't too dear. Also they are an official dealer if you want the stamp.

I've had my Elise 3 months, use it everyday & love it I worked out that 20 days of my year are spent driving to work - if you're going to waste 20 days of your life each year I can't think of a better way to do it.

My wife & I went to Europe for TWO weeks & found the boot [just] large enough!

I get just about 40mpg - which is way better than the Alfa exec rep machine I used to have - and I don't drive like a grandad - because my elise won't let me!

The only downers are the leaky roof (but you can get a shower cap/ hard top for winter) and the latest knocking sound (see other post!).

I say do it & join the select few of us who are lucky enough to look forward to their drive to work!

Generally you can adjust out any leaks and resealing the roof every 6 months helps alot too. I use autoglym hood restorer but I knw there are loads of different approaches used by Elise owners

My 97 car has the windows finish 1cm short of the roofline, not good, leaks like buggery. I guess it was just a bad one made and the later cars ive seen seem a lot better fit.

Juicetin - just take it to specialist like Sinclaires and they will adjust the windows perfectly

Buy one - I sold my Tuscan recently as I moved further from work and needed something a bit more commuter friendly. After much deliberation I got myself a 111s. I really liked the car but thought I would miss the power of the Tuscan. It's true the straight line speed doesn't compare but once I got to grips with the handling characteristics of the Elise, I realised there's more to sports cars that just raw power. I've recently started going the long way home from work just so I can include some more roundabouts in my journey.

Thanks for the advice guys! It seems I am getting more and more keen on the idea, as said this will be my main car and will do a fair few miles.

Any more advice very welcome, I am based in Nottinghamshire so dealers, specialists would be helpful. I also work right by the A1 so can get about easily!

HELP!

I have also heard that at high speeds (above 85) the Elise comes very tail happy on motorways and doesn't feel safe at all...is this true? Can anything be done to combat it, lots of my driving will be of fast A roads and motorways.

Mine seems absolutely fine on the motorway when travelling at somewhat over the limit. (Does the spoiler on my S1 111S make any difference when complared with the standard Elise?)

Tail happy on motorways!! LOL!! You'd have to be going very very fast (faster than an elise will go) round a very tight bend for that to happen. The car lightens up at speed so you need to be prepared for a change in the steering feedback but it is still very much planted on the road (mine is a 111S as well though...)
