Does anyone know when Lotus started using the Alpine speakers in the S2 Elises and if there is any way you can identify whether you've got the Alpine speakers (front/rear)? I have the 4-speaker pack from an 04/02 elise and i'm not sure.

They changed intermittently as far as I can tell between the Alpines and the cheapo paper coned 10wpeak Eurotech rubbish. If you have blue cones then you have Alpines - perfectly good, approx £70 a pair and not worth uprading unless you are going to use a powerful external amp. If you have the black paper cones then throw them out at the earliest opportunity ! even the std Clarion head unit maxes them out...they truly are dire

Cunningly, the Alpines have Alpine written on them on a piece of plastic near the domes.

I have Phoenix Gold Tantrums, very good sound. I also have a Clarion active sub on the parcel shelf.

OK, I've identified that I do not have Alpines. Replacing the speakers seems to be a simple enough job - the problem seems to be accessing the rear passenger side speaker. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the passenger seat but the outside rear bolt that holds it is in a position is very difficult to access, more so with the lumbar bracket which also looks very difficult to remove. Anyone who has done this got any tips? ta.

You need a strong, long allen key with the ball type thing on the end. a good pair of pliers as well will help with leverage and you'll hear a "crack" when it comes undone, perfectly normal. word of advice, be careful when taking the seat out cos the seat belt comes with it and can hit the paintwork.
