I had my 9000 mile service just over 2 months ago, yet when I checked my oil level the other day, it was only at the 1/4 line on the dip stick. Have since filled her up with the Dom Perignon of engine oils (Mobil1) but that seems like a lot of oil to get through in such a short space of time.

Anyone else found this?

Could it be that the service didn't fill it up but filled it to say 1/2 way?

All cars esp performance cars will use some oil. If you do relatively high speed stuff you will use more. My fuel injected mini uses oil but there is not problem with the engine at all.

I would check it once per week and see how it is dropping. If its drinking loads then look into it. But IMHO if it was 2 months ago when it was "filled up" then the oil use isn't that bad.

Hope that helps.

Agreed with smeagol - almost certainly nothing to worry about. You should check your oil more regularly, particularly after it has been serviced - I've found my level to be halfway down the dipstick after a service more than once!

It was suggested to me that Mobil 1 is TOO expensive for a K Series and Magnatec or similar would be better.

I run mine on Magnatec - its only a K series and if its in std tune its hardly stressed.

Any old semi synth that is the correct grade will do IMHO - its far more important to change it often particularly if you do a lot of track days
