Sorry to post this in the Elise forum, but I wanted to get a comparison of the Vauxhall to any of the current Elises.
I drove one at MotorDriveLive on Sunday, and I hate to admit it but it was simply one of the best car's I have ever driven. Not only was the handling sharp and spot-on, but it had a real kick to the power. Specs on paper say 0-60 in 4.7 and 150+mph, which I wouldn't disagree with.
Now on the downside, it looks f-ugly, and ... it's a Vauxhall. I know I shouldn't be a badge snob, but there you go.
As the Elise2 and VX are very similar underneath, I was wondering if there was a model comparible to the VX220 Turbo...?

Andy, if you want the power and handling of a VX220T wrapped up in the skin of an Elise (either S1 or S2) you should investigate getting a bog standard car and giving it to TurboTechnics for a supercharger, then upgrade the rest of the car (suspension for instance) to suit your needs.
There are three other options if you don't want a supercharged K series:
1. Honda VTEC engine conversion from Brooke Kensington
2. A rumoured engine conversion by Dave Andrews, maybe available soon
3. The S3 elise with it's new engine as built by Lotus - noone really knows how good this will be or when it will be available.

I believe the S2 111S is about 200kg lighter than the VX220, but only has 156bhp - The 0 - 60 is about 5 seconds, not sure about top speed, but it'll touch 100 in 3rd gear, getting there very quickly - I wouldn't like to be in any car that low doing 150mph though.
There's also an S2 Sport 190 which is pretty expensive, but I think would completely out-handle the vauxhall. Not really recommended for road use (from what I hear)
In my (and most other peoples') opinion the Lotus looks much better, plus you've got the badge (if you say you have a Vauxzhall, people would probably think Corsa - you say Lotus, they think supercar)

get a std S2 and spend £1800 with www.dvapower.com
160bhp/140ft/lb in an S2 (around 750kg to the VXT's 980Kg) gives 0-60 in 5 and 0-100 in 13.8 approx and is pretty useful...obviously not as torquey but if you think the VXT handles well you need to have a go in an Elise - the VX is a lot softer in comparison and more road orientated.
Or get a new S2 135R which comes with the LSS and OZ wheels/Yokos etc spend £500 on cams and get 155ish if youre into trackdays
Or pick up a second hand S2 for £19K and spend £10K with Turbo Technics for a 230bhp/190ft/lb S2 still weighing around 770Kg wet - it will p*ss all over a VX Turbo ...if I was buying now thats what Id do ...after driving my friend Miles' TT230 at the weekend around Elvington 0-60 in 4.5ish 0-100 in 11ish

Get yourself an Exige instead! 190bhp (with the Decat/ECU) for one one of the best looking, fastest track cars you can get, let alone for £23k(ish). CAnt be that more compromised than a VX. Then for £10k get a VTEC lump fitted, 0-100 in 9seconds, apparently.
Even though, they should have called the VX220 the "Opel Speedster" instead. Still will never beat telling anyone "I have a Lotus Exige" ... but hey
