Hi Guys,
I have a question about the relative sizes of boot between S1 and S2 Elises. I saw an S2 and it's boot was basically the same width as the car. I saw an S1 a while back and I remember the boot being rather smaller i.e. little bigger than the actual lid size. So, is the boot on an S2 bigger than that in an S1?

I know this is a numpty question but if you could just humour me on this one

I didn't think there was much in it myself, I stand to be corrected though. On an s1 the opening ain't big, but the actual room inside is the width of the car...
...any help?

Thanks Dr Bob, that is what I needed to hear. I think that the S1 I saw had some sort of lining in the boot which prevented access to the areas of the boot which extend to the outer edges of the car.

Ahhhh, that must have been a quite early one.

IIRC the early ones had a 'boot bag', sure someone will come along and confirm that at some point!

Remember also that the S2 has the battery in the boot, whereas the S1 doesn't.

I don't think there's much in it at all, if anything.

The later S1's have a larger boot as the bot is part of the clam, wheras earlier cars had a boot bag which lines the boot space.

Mine has a boot bag - is there any way to upgrade?

Not sure, I expect it's more complex than it seems, but I suppose you'd need at least a new clam . . . it's a single bonded unit . . .

Thanks for the responses guys. It does generate an additional question, that is, approximately, when did the change from 'boot bag' to 'clamshell boot' occur with the S1?
Cheers,
Paul.

Mine was a June 99 T'plate that had a 'clam boot'. I would think that the change occured at the same time that the wheels went to from 5 to 12-spoke. IIRC there was a small price increase at the same time.

According to the S1 service manual, the boot bag was replaced by an integral luggage compartment within the rear clam in sept 98 at around VIN W4429.
I've got the old boot bag version which pretty much "expands" to fill all the space available. Not sure there is much to gain by "upgrading", if that was even possible.
