Ok, I've gone and done it

The Tuscan is sold, and I have agreed a price on an S2 Elise (this one: www.pistonheads.com/ads/detail.asp?i=9884&sc=CBDZ&s=12).

Should be a proud new owner by the end of the week.

My new Elise has a regular exhaust and thus urgently needs an upgrade! Coming from a Tuscan, I need a very sexy, purposeful sounding exhaust. Something that sounds great as soon as you turn the key... Suggestions please!

Have heard a lot about the Janspeed / Hurricane induction kit combo...

WELCOME!!

I had the Hurricane and the Janspeed fitted about a month ago, as the exhaust was off I thought, sod it, and put a sports cat on. Picked the car up on a Thursday, fractured my shoulder blade on the Saturday fk!!

I have just got back in from my first drive in it again, a blat round South East London following a Griff 500. There wasn't a lot of difference in the noise.... Johno?

So, big grin back on face, I am sure there is a little bit more power somewhere, don't care...sounds great!!

Hmmm, well after coming out of sports exhaust Cerbie land I have to say don't expect your Liz to sound anything like a TVR ever! I've got the Janspeed box on now and have a hurricane waiting for fitting. Impressions, well, erm, I wouldn't mind a Griff now!!! Lots of people have moaned about the Janspeed being too loud, obviously they've never been in a TVR because it ain't. OK it's louder than standard box when you put your foot down but on steady cruise there isn't much in it. Haven't even managed to get any decent popping going on either, might need to loose the cat for that.

If you can get along to a local meet see if anyone there has Janspeed alternatives. I think the main options are Bell & colville or Brooke Kensington.

At least it doesn't sound like a sewing machine anymore though!

The British Cars BBS has gone a bit downhill recently IMHO I'm spending far more time here and at www.seloc.org - loads of discounts and competitions at seloc too

Checked out the pic of the gunmetal S2 (190??). Where'd you get the front splitter from? Make much of a difference?

If you want to go for a seriously nice sound then the Janspeed competition exhaust is great.

I'm just getting a Tuscan! But not swapping the Exige - I would definetly choose the Lotus over the TVR if I had to.

I've got the hurricane/Janspeed and can vouch for it, sounds very nice. CRP will add to it, but it's good enough for me at the mo'.

There is a lot of difference in the noise ! I have to admit it sounds very good, but having gone down a similar route with my previous TVR I think you will get bored with it on a long journey on the motorway as it is a little droney for prolonged cruising etc ..

Around town and down the country roads it sounds fantastic for a smaller capacity engine.

All it needs now is another 4 cylinders and 3.2 litres

(waits for handling gags to be thrown back)

Thats an www.autostyle-solutions.com front splitter - I had one on my car until last weekend when I had a minor agument with bunny :-)

Its a good bit of kit - definately a percevied difference of stability at high speed on the motorway and high speed bends

The car in the pic is a std S2 ST with a PTP 140 kit/ITG/Janspeed/CRP and the Lotus LSS kit which in cludes the nice OZ wheels and Yoko A048's and belogns to David Noble

I'm thinking a CRP or sports cat is the key to getting a decent exhaust sound from an Elise.

How's it compare to this www.alvan-motors.com/uk/lotuskit.htm ? I like the look of this kit cos it makes the front end look more "macho" and the rear wing is an Exige type one. Where I live it's all about cornering so this would be my next purchase, if it really works well.

Tony

The splitter should perform the same - the Autostyle one is cheaper though. Im going for the Alvan ones next as they give more ground clearance - I lost the other one on a run a week or so ago !

Definitely agree. I was behind Gav from Blackpool on the Norlog run. Sports box and CRP. Lots of pops and crackles and he says it helps reduce the drone you often get with elise sports boxes. Now I've just got to decide what sort of manifold I want so I can get the right sort of CRP

for an S2 the Piper 4-2-1 manifold should be better than the Janspeed, as the Janspeed has a flexi section built in therefore lengths are compromised.

Im fitting the Piper + flexi CRP this week, and will have some dyno runs to compare before/after - will let you know how I get on.

Yep this is the route I'm thinking of. Not 100% sure what to do come MOT (couple of years of though!), probably alright to just stick the original cat back on for that short time. Piper flexi sports cat is just a little pricey. Maybe adding Eliseparts engine steady bar thing will make life less nervous for that short period. Are you planning on going with a MIL eliminator?

Be interested in seeing your results IIRC you've got DVA 155 kit, induction and exhaust sorted already right?

Cheers,
Rob

Yep - got DVA155/exhaust/sports cat(for sale - solid not flexi) - did 161bhp/140ft/lb. Im gonna get a MIL eliminator if I decide not to get flexi sports cat (depends how I get on with the noise !) and then put the cat back on in 2 years for the MOT. To be honest the standard ECU is about on the edge now so Im not expecting huge gains...but hopefully pick up some torque low down for now. Im still waiting for the plug compatible emerald, then with that and throttle bodies it should make an easy 180bhp ...then I'll call it a day on the engine
