I have a Razo knob fitted. Has a plastic insert that screws into the knob and then threads onto the gear shift.

I fitted a Momo Carbon/Chrome Gear knob. The job is simple, apart from trying to get the old one off.....and without damaging it
My advice is to get a friend(min 20stone body builder) to hold the gearlever to stop stress on the bushes/linkage.Place a thick cloth on top of the old knob and get the biggest set of waterpump pliers you can find.
Putting the new one on is a piece of.....

I had to take mine off to fit a new center console as some unknown girl with sharp boots scratched the old one and I couldn't bear looking at it. Not sure if they are all the same but I have the alluminium knob (standard on sports tourers). On this one the are "holes" in the bottom of the knob; if you stick an allan key up one of these holes, cover the gear knob in a tea towel or similar, you can remove the knob using a large pair of pliors with the allan key in the middle for leverage.
Unfortunately I scratched the bottom half of the knob the coated alluminium section)before I discovered the allan key trick so I gritted it down and polished it up. Now it looks the same as the top polished alluminium section - absolutely superb!
