Does anybody have an insight into why insurance for an Elise is do high?

It's a what gorup 17 car? So is an MR2 but I get quoted £860 for an MR2 and £1763 for an Elise. Why?

Try Direct Line, I was on £700, two years no claims, before I had a small accident with a deer.

Elise - Elephant: £1763, Tesco: £1360 + Tracker, Directline: Unable to quote, Bell Direct: £1806

MR2 - Elephant: £1251, Tesco: £1143, Directline: About £1200, Bell Direct:£859

These prices do not bode well. And I have 5 years NCB!!

Depends how old you are - I pay £1050 and Im 33 with full NCB, mods declared, 25K miles a year, with Tesco, no tracker (existing policy)...oh and your postcode makes the biggest difference after age. if you are under 30 then those prices are about right

Agree with Bogie on this, postcode makes a huge difference. I used to live in the centre of reading with street parking and insurance on any car was expensive. Now living in a village on Oxon, with a drive etc insurance is cheap(er)! My elise cost me 700 quid from Priviledge with a tracker but only 2 yrs no claims, over 30 mind you.

If you are under 30 you'll get stung as a lot get crashed!!

Ah that is where I'm really unstuck, I'm not only under 30 but under 25! 21 to be exact. I was just wondering why the MR2 and Elise are in the same group but the prices are so different. I guess you don't see too many totalled MR2s.

blo*dy hell those insurance quotes are cheap then !

and theres a bit of difference in performance between an MR2 and an Elise ..might explain things just because cars are in the same group doesnt mean they cost the same to insure ! in group 20 theres everything from an S2111S Elise to a Mclaren F1...and they dont cost the same funnily enough
