Having just found out I cannot get replacement P Zeros for the rear of my S1 111S can anyone advise me on the realative merits of the Bridgestone S-03 and the Yokohama Advan Neova LTS ( or any other tyre I should consider)? Alternatively does anyone know where I can still get P Zeros?

I still have the original p zeros on mine but know most people will recommend Yokohama Advan Neovas.

I know a few people who are now using Toyo's (proxy?) which are also supposed to be good and cost a fair chunk less that Advans (about £430 for a full set IIRC)

Not sure which to go for myself when the p zeros give up the ghost.

The advan are fantastic I've changed on my S! from pzeros. Much less road noise, absorb more bumps, much better dry grip and more progressive but in the wet the difference is massive I now have confidence in the car whereas before the grip was so low I was always wary of it. Bridgestone were excellent on my 400se tvr although not as good as the lotus however they are probably on the hard/stiff side for an elise. You can get a set of advans for circa 400 if you shop around. I got mine for JCT600 in leeds. Having changed from PZEROS i wouldn't put any back on if they were given to me!

Look at prevoius threads on tyres some good stuff

Have fun

I agree with Dave, since changing to the advan's it has been a revolution in the handling characteristics in all weathers. Seem to me to wear better than the P Zero's as there is not so much spin and better traction. Main difference is the reduction in understeer.

One thing to bear in mind, and I am not sure whether this is absolutely right or not, was that my local dealer SGT (Taplow) sold me the Advans for the back, then on taking it to Bell and Colvill (where I have bought Lotus's and my Saab Aero), they told me that Lotus strongly suggest that you change all four and not just the rears. Has been worth it for the understeer alone... even though I had many miles left in the fronts.

Give Eliseparts a ring if you need some rears just til you've run your fronts out. I got some 1000mile front tyres off of him the other week.

I agree with all the comments about the advans. P Zeros are hopeless in the wet and the fronts lock up so easily.

If you're looking for the cheapest Yoko Tyre deals especially on Advans you won't beat the deals being offered to SELOC members by a couple of main Lotus dealers and suppliers...

s1, s2's & exiges are all covered...

anyone tried Toyo Proxes?

these are way cheaper than either the Bridgestones or the Yokos.

What about Goodyear Eagle F1s?

grateful for any advice, as I probably need a full set of tyres - fronts are a bit old and hard, rears are (bizarrely) Marangoni Herons!!!
Why anyone would put these on an Elise is somewhat beyond me......

I think the P-Zeros are designed for a heavier vehicle. I used the Rossi version on my 3000GT, and they were amazing come rain or shine. Took the car round Castle Combe and it was so predictable whether the car was going straight or sideways

The Car did weigh over 1800kgs as opposed to the 700kgs for the Elise, so I don’t think you will get the full effect from the tyres.

For the Atom I have just bought Dunlop D01J's they are imported in from Japan, and road legal. They are designed for the lighter car, which is good as it only weighs 480kgs

That's true, yes..

Ah.. But don't compare the Pzero Rosso's to the original Pzero Asymetrico's as usedon the Elise S1 (and many other cars). They are very different...

The original Pzero Asymetrico's are known to be very bad in the wet, even on heavy cars.Even the Pirelli website used to remark that the wet handling of these tyres was 'not good'.

The Rosso's are loads better in this respect, but not available in Elise sizes.

Bye, Arno.
