I know the standard pipes sound naff, and that as a day-to-day car the Elise is noisy. However, ideally the Elise would be a little quieter, especially for long journies, and would sound nicer on the overrun and kickover.

So are any of/do the aftermarket pipes all offer noise quality improvements without significant extra noise levels?

The only person I know where I live with an retro-fit exhaust Elise has also had it supercharged (30mph sounds like an angry vertical take-off circular saw),so not a good guide.

Oh, and mines on the original pipe which can'tlast that much longer so advice appreciated.

mines got the Janspeed(Lotus) sports exhaust with cat bypass pipe, improves the sound no end, but if your not in the mood for LOUD then it does irritate (other downside is that people can think a nova 1.4 SR boom tish is coming down the road until they look round)its fine at a constant throttle, a friend has just put the new magnex back box on with the original looking twin outlet and with the cat in place you can tell a difference, it's louder but not to the extremes of mine, so that could be a good compromise
