Has anyone had any problems with their S2 engine when idling? I just had mine in for its 9000 mile service and the night before she overheated (reached 111). Turned out there was a coolant pipe leak and was fixed under warranty and no ill effects reportedm til now.

Kinda vague on this but only way to describe it is to say that when she is idling she seems a bit lumpy, flitting between 700 and 900 revs. She starts fine everytime but this is worrying me as it seems to be labouring or dipping more noticeably so that you feel a slight shudder behind you!

I have her serviced at HR Owen in St Albans and was planning to book her into Sinclaires for an exhaust and induction upgrade cos they are cheaper, so was gonna ask them to check!

Should I be worried, is that a clear symptom of something nasty or am I just imagining it and all elises behave like that????

hey hey - getting mine booked in next week for the same problem - knowing my luck and the current K series bag of spanners behind me its probably going to need a new engine - but hey it a lotus and all part of the character.

mine has done this a couple of times....like the ECU had tripped over itself. Ive ended up stopping the engine for a few mins, setting the alarm, unsetting it and restarting and it's been okay...

I would guess your coolant and overheat issue has given the ECU a bit of a spaz, and plugging it back into the electronic box of tricks at lotus should fix it

When the engine is cold, mine hunts a little bit between 700-900. I always thought that was normal?

Havent' really paid attention since the weather has warmed up though, so I'll take a look tomorrow and see if its just when its bitterly cold.

hmm my above info isn't right. When cold, my idle is about 1100-1200. When warm its pretty steady at 900.

Dunno if its a problem.

Ok mine is the same, I think i have a mixture problem which explains the hunting. Although its not really hunting it holds at 900 when warm and then every 10 seconds shudders slightly.

As someone said I think only Lotus's box of tricks can get to the bottom of this one
