I discovered on Friday at a routine service that my (new to me)Elise S1 has a sports silencer & manifold - the previous owner didn't mention it. So being the law abiding citizen that I am I phoned my insurance broker to let them know. They said it shouldn't be a problem, but they would have to check with the company underwriting my policy

Yesterday they called to say my existing insurance company would no longer insure me and that none of the others on their books would either - so I would have to go elsewhere. For the pleaseure of forcing me to cancel my insurance they have charged me 124GBP on top of the pro rata amount for the two months the car was insured

Thanks to the advice in a previous post string - Elephant ended up quoting me even cheaper than the original policy

We also have breakdown assistance & another policy through this company who have a fleet of bright orange vans, but we won't be renewing any of it!

So - the moral - check for those mods when you buy your car!

Sports exhaust and manifold are hardly big horsepower upgrades, it's astonishing that no companies on your broker's books were able to quote for that modification.

Oh well, their loss.
In the long run at least. £124 is a bit harsh on you though!
