To all Headers,

This will be my last bit of advice that I will probably need from you guys.

Last week I was involved in a high speed crash totally wrecking the car and luckly walking away unscathed

My Insurance company have declared the car is a write off and are in the process of making me an offer - this is where i need you.

What is my car worth, S2 2001 31k, £7k of extra's? What would be a realistic price?

Thanks

Really sorry to hear the news mate, glad you are OK. I don't really follow the prices of S2s so can't really say, but what I do know is that the extras are worthless in the insurance co's eyes, and the high milage will reduce the payout, so do not accept their first offer!

I 'lost' my first Elise over two years ago but I got a cheque from the insurance co within 3 months and bought another straight away.

Once they make you an offer, you need to scour top marques, dealer listings and Autotrader, get faxes and printouts of private and dealer prices and prove that you need more money in order to buy an equivalent replacement, whether you intend to buy another Elise or not (you really should, you know!). Insist to talk to a decision maker and haggle. I argued that because I bought my first one from a dealer, I had to be able to buy my replacement from a dealer so private prices were irrelevant.

Good luck!

Bad luck mate. Glad to hear you're ok.

Which insurance co is it. I have a few contacts in the industry who might be able to offer some advice.

Anyway you can still be a PH'er if you have'nt got an elise.

Tough luck matey this is bad news indeed, but at least you are telling the tale! Prepare yourself for battle with your insurance co. Look in mags at prices similar car going for.

You're not fancying an Elise replacement then? If can't agree price - agree a price + u keep salvage - always people willing to buy damaged Elises or parts (eg Eliseparts).

Best of luck..

You need to get some dealer price lists, as the private prices on them are about 19kish if its a sport tourer, and yours was actually fairly high mileage for the car.

Dealer price I'd hope would be nearer 21k. More as we get closer to summer perhaps.

Glad you were ok, Elises are pretty good in a crash it seems, although I guess the less lucky people don't write about it on the boards

Good advice as always chaps.

I like the sound of keeping the car option as it would be a great 12-18 month project to repair(if poss)and with no intention to ever sell on. I have in the past, or should I say in my forma life re shelled a few cars but nothing that has been glued together

The weird thing is that I can't beleive how attached to the car I am, am a sad or what? But in my defence the looks from the women & kids was awesome there wasn't a day at the weekend b4 some little 10 year old would trundle over and say "hey mister your car is ace" and then the obvious" how fast does it go" made me and my mates smile better still some leggy blonde would give you a cheeky grin
........arrrrhh memories.

After the frilly stuff, the drive...............nothin more to say

So thanks for the tips, lets see what happens and hopefully I will be back soon.

P.S. Watch this space for some bits 4 sale.

Adios
