Hi all,
I was after a little advice and was hoping you could help. I have been offered a ‘Y’ reg Elise through a friend for £13k with 47k on the clock, apparently it is mustard yellow with black leather, but until I see it this weekend that is about all I know. What I would like to know is, is this a good deal? And bearing in mind the obvious (FLSH and HPI check) what should I be looking for?
Many thanks
Matt

Mostly you should be looking for evidence of accident damage and at the standard of the cosmetics vs. the asking price and what you want to use the car for (posing vs. driving ).
Take old clothes and look under the car and inside the wheelarches, bonnet and boot at the chassis and suspension. It should all be straight and dent free. Any sign of impact, bends or buckles means an inspection by a specialist is required.
The running gear will stand the mileage and routine stuff there can be fixed cheaply enough by independents, but if you need any bodwork done, stonechips resprayed, interior retrimmed etc. it will cost you lots. Some stuff, like scratches and scuffs on any part of the aluminium tub are not repairable at all.
Don't get wound up about the history being Lotus dealer. A good independent is a far better sign of a cared for car IMHO.
