Hi,

I've just bought my first Elise (2002 Cobalt Blue Sport 135 Sports Tourer).

The car is fantastic. The one thing that bothers me is a big scratch on the passenger side of the centre console. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a replacement from?

Also, I occasionaly hear a "springy" noise noise like a sping being twanged at random intervals during my journey; this can be when the car is moving or idle. It does not affect the ride and the shockes appear to be fine. Any ideas?

Many Thanks - Warren

the alu tub and total lack of sound insulation in the car amplifies all kind of strange noises. My suspension clinks when i go over cats eyes etc (sports suspension) so its probably random and harmless - if still in warranty, no harm in getting it checked though...

I think Lotus dealers might stock them.

Got to the bottom of the spring noise. It's the spring on the accelerator pedal that is causing it. It looks a bit worn and slightly misaligned, but I'm having the car serviced in a couple of weeks so I’ll get it checked out then.

I had exactly the same problem with my throttle spring. At certain position it would twang/tick. Dealer said they have had several cars with same problem (but took them two goes to fix it).

I've also got a scratch on the console (which the girlfriend swears wasn't her). Could you let us know the price and if it is easy to fit?

Thanks

Mine developed a crack around the gear shift - dealer replaced under warranty ...wonder if yours could do the same? ;-) (if its under warranty of course)

The price I was quoted for the center-console from Stratton Motors was £36 + VAT. It seems a bit steep for a chunk of plastic but I'll probably get one to put my mind at rest

Good to know other people have had the throttle spring noise. Do you know how it was fixed in the end?

After the first visit to the dealer where they failed to fix it, I took out the mechanic from the dealer. Apparently all it needed was to be 'bent slightly'. I could have done it myself but I've done it before with my S1 and it is not very comfortable upside down, feet sticking out the roof, plus it is under warrantee.

I love my S2 to bits but it has had loads more warrantee issues than my S1. Maybe we should setup a FAQ for common faults/fixes. So far IIRC have had: No break lights, leaking boot, leaking windows/roof, alarm going off for no reason (normally at 3 a.m.), rattling shocks (replaced), rattling suspension ball joint (replaced), rattling doors (new pins fitted), bad door alignment rubbing on front clam, loose seatbelts, rub round windscreen came unstuck, other rubber trim fell off, throttle spring, interior light badly fitted, steering wheel not straight, faulty battery, seat trim falling off, alarm sensor buzzing against black plastic behind the seats, door locks ceased up (summer), Radio is not fit for purpose (even with the dealer fitted kitchen foil added to the boot)...and it's only done 5k miles. All sorted now apart from the radio.

Got that, but seems to go when the headlights heat up.
