I have opted out of the company car policy due to increasing demands by the tax man. I commute 100 miles a day, up the A3 with a typically journey averaging about 46mph.
Fuel costs are very appealing with 40mpg+ expected!
Would the elise be suitable for such journeys on mostly a daily basis? (I would be looking to spend 15K.)

Many Thanks
Paul

Comfort wise, no problem with that. The Elise will be a reliable, reasonably cheap lane crawler. BUT that's not what the Elise is about. You won't see 40mpg in stop/start traffic, budget for more like 32-34mpg. You'll be gagging to get the car onto some nice twisty roads with few other cars.

I may get shot down for this but personally for a boring commute I would want something warm and dry, with a good sound system and ABS. I say ABS because we all know how easy it is to be half asleep early on a winter's morning and greasy roads with stop start traffic are no fun in the Elise, you have to keep a good distance and be ready to concentrate hard when braking.

Having said that, I've been commuting in mine for nearly two years now and have had no problems. But my drive to work involves country lanes and fast dual carriageway and never any traffic.

So in my opinion, it all depends on how much you like your luxuries and how boring your commute is.

Ohhh, just get it.

I used to do Thame to Wood Lane everyday - Backroad/M40/A40 and the elise was no problems and when the opportunity arises to get onto some backroads its worth very penny

Take one out for a long test drive and make sure you are comfortable/it has enough room for all your work stuff.

Thanks Guys.
To be honest - the drive is boring - wanted to get it more exciting by buying an Elise! Understand your comments about country roads though. Just concerned about wear and tear and comfort - which you seem to have answered!
I cannot really afford to get a 'third car' so thought I'd get a combined third car/commuter - strange? Maybe.

I commute a minimum of 150 miles a day, depending whick client Im working for...sometimes I travel 1000 miles per week in my S2. No probs with comfort, fuel economy etc. Always try and plan the most scenic route on nice days :-)

Bad points are the heater on the S2 is pretty poor on cold winter mornings, so need coat and gloves on for a little while until things warm up.

No probs with boredom on motorways - have upgraded the stereo...pics here ;-)

I can only afford to run one car, and to be honest even if I did have another car it would seem such a waste to leave the Elise on the drive no matter where I was going !

Although the Elise is a great car it cannot make sitting in traffic more interesting

Some people have said comfort is an issue for them but I've never had any probs (despite a whiplash injury which apparently will "never be right" ). They do leak a bit and the noise whilst driving is akin to a knitting machine in a wind tunnel but if you love the car its the eccentricities like that that make you smile. My personal fave was when I borrowed my car off the previous owner for a day...

I was blasting down the A41 and the sun was quite bright so I put my hand up to pull down the sun visor. Once I'd worked out there wasn't one I just started to laugh.

Daft really

I to use the S2 for an every day car, 100k per day and not a problem.

My journey has a 20 mile stretch of twisty stuff followed by a 30 mile M62 journey in Manchester ( V dull! ) However you can always play a game if the roads have low volumes of traffic on them. Simply use the cats eyes as a slalom course - if someone was watching me they would think I was mad, then again perhaps.....

Agree with Bonce, have a Landie for the borring drives, I can hear the music, see the road ahead, its comfortable, but then I always found the 111S good anyway, and the wife does not moan as much!
