Has anyone had problems with their radiator fan?
Discussion
Just enquiring whether it was a one off problem or not. As some of you may know the fan has not been kicking in - not too much of a problem in winter though. Anyway when it was serviced I mentioned the problem - they said that it was seized and put a new fan in - the car is only 18 months old...
Get a set of schematics and test the fan yourself, or get a friendly technical person (if you're not) to do it for you . . .
They are known to fail, not really sure why, unfortunately it's a front clam and radiator removal job to replace it, so you have to be sure it's the fan and not anything else that's at fault . . . like the relay/ECU temp sender, whatever

Thanks Fergus, I think it's probably faulty rather than disconnected because I exaggerated when I said constantly; it's actually "constantly after water temp hits 60 degrees". Usually.
I can't find the Rover part number for the ECU temp sender (and yes, I have looked on your marvellous www.elise-faq.info )
Anyone got any clues as to what to ask for? Do I need to get a new washer for it as well?

Yeah, yeah, I know it's not on the faq site, I don't know what the part number is.
However it is a standard MGF part, to simplify things for the parts bloke ask for the ECU temp sender, and remond him it's Brown . . . that'll get the bit.
Actually I have the rover parts computer print out in the car, but it's raining, late and I'm off to bed, if the part number is on it I'll post it tomorrow.

OK, I've got a replacement part, the part number isn't clearly marked so it is either:
a) ROMEK100060
b) UIGTR 206
or
c) GAK05G8
The service manual says to just unscrew the old one, using a container to catch the coolant that spills out. How much coolant should I expect to come out, and do I need to bleed the system after topping it up again?
Also, it says to put Teflon tape on the thread before refitting; is this the same as the stuff plumbers use on taps?
Thanks once again!
