Lotus Elise or Scooby

Going to test drive both soon... A mate of mine has a new WRX which seems to fly...no mods... So I'm looking at either the Elise or a Scooby... Has anyone owned both and have an opinion... The handleing in the Scooby seems excellent, is it better than the elise...any help or opinions needed.
Hmm, well it's really up to you to decide based on what you want to get out of your driving/owning experience. They're very different cars designed for different purposes. I think test drives will help you a lot!

a few years ago I had a shortlist of Elise 111s, Griffith 500 or Impreza STi.
In the end I chose the Sti as the best compromise between performance and practicality.
I'm now probably going to swap a WRX for an Elise.

I find it difficult to have fun in the Impreza without going too fast - an Elise will definitely be a slower car on A roads, dual carriageways etc, but is going to be more involving, more fun, cooler to look at etc etc etc.

In the dry I would expect the Elise to have better handling - i.e. more ultimate grip, more adjustable, ultimately faster in the twisties.
But I've only test-driven Elises, not owned them, so this is only IMHO, and someone else may well know better.

there is a link on the left where you can compare 2 cars, I think they have an Exige (Does not show an Elise) and an Subaru STi. Select the detailed comparison, most interesting statistic is the lap time for Hockenheim. From memory the Exige does it in about 1:14 and the Scooby in about 1:19 ish and the Honda CTR in about 1:21. The lateral g and downforce the Exige has is really phenomenal the only cars on the same level in terms of lap times are well over £60,000.

I have a year 2000 Impreza Turbo, with a few toys, a mate has just bought a year 2000 Elise, I have since driven his Elise, and I have to say that my car is way quicker on the road, but when I took my car on track, a few cars overtook me during the day, one was a Skyline, another an Escort Cossie, and the only other was an Elise, so, if yoo're gonna do a load of track stuff, then go for the Elise, of course, you'll need to be double jointed at least, or, if it's mainly road miles, and it's gonna be your everyday car, get the Scoob, that is, if you can live with 20mpg! some people get more, god knows how!

The problem with this comparison is that they handle very differently. If you prefer a smooth driving style and want results that improve as your driving does then get the Elise. If you want speed without having to put the effort in all the time and handling that allows you to make more mistakes and get away with it then get the Scooby. If you want outright speed then save up for a second hand TVR.

The Impreza is very quick point to point in all weathers and is almost totally foolproof - and that's the problem.
I doubt the Elise is as quick - in fact I know a S2 Elise isn't as I had a good natured play with one a few months back but there's more sensation of speed, and I think it would just be more fun for more of the time - which is why I'm thinking of getting one!

I miss the scoob alot
I hate taking the elise out in the wet which unfortunately seems to be alot. Infact when its wet i just dont bother as ive spun it before even when going quite slow. Never used to bother me in wet since subaru has 4wd and abs.
The scoob feels more powerful and that turbo kick is amazing.
Id say both cars handle just as well
At 16500 new euro import the subaru is a bargain.
Although you will miss out on soft top, good economy, elise looks better.

ive only had a scare once in the wet but that was enuff
the suprising thing is that i wasnt going that fast or being agressive.
happened on a slip road and it started to go as i put the power down when i thought i was out of the bend and going straight

No offence but a bit of driver training might be needed here. I drive my S1 everyday round lots of twistys and onto the M40. I've NEVER had the back breakaway other than when I've wanted it to and most people I know would say I'm a fast driver.
I had the pleasure of driving round a rain drenched Silverstone in one of their MK1 elises and the instructor gave me one bit of advice that I take with me everywhere.

We are talking about the Elise?
Gents tried the 111s yesterday... Not my bag I'm afraid.. Felt a bit to enclosed for me... I'm used to having little space with the TVR, but that was too little.....and the dials looked liked they had come out of a Fisher price toy... No disrespect to those who own them... I thought the handleing was excellent, and the ride was more forgiving than I thought it would be....
P.S. Anyone here know Trevor Sinclair..West Ham Mid Field... He was lairing up behind me in is 911 C4.. He didn't stand a chance on the round about..
