new front clamshell - for salvage Elise

after a long and tortuous decision process I may in the market for an Elise.

I'm tempted by a damaged repairable Series 2 - does anyone know how much a new front clam would be?

Is it a write off? - beware of chassis damage!! - can be v difficult to detect on damaged lizzies - insurance companies generally only write off if repairs are considered to be above 65% of cars value, with an early std S2 repairs would be in £12k region?

I think you will find a new clamshell, unpainted, will set you back around £900 plus VAT. That is the amount I was quoted recently when I enquired after a mishap I had on the track.

I'd echo what Clanger said, someones trying to sell one at the moment which he bought from universal salvage. I guess he's found out its got a bent chassis. Be very careful the Elise chassis can't be repaired, front suspension mounts are vunerable.
