Sorry to bring this age old subject of HGF again, but after reading an article about the MGF and its HG's susceptibility to fail it has made me think again. It mentions that more often than not, HGF occurs once the car has had its first major service - ie when there is a requirement to change the coolant. It basically indicates that the coolant system is not properly bled, leaving airlocks in the system. Does anybody know how the system is filled at the factory and how this would differ from a dealer procedure?

I have had to replace the coolant myself in the past due to the loss of the rad hose - I have had fluctuating temps ever since and cannot seem to get rid of them no matter how mant times I bleed the system
: (

Don't know about coolant change (except to say refer to service manual).
Re: fluctating temp - have you checked the temp sender and connection to stack unit? My displayed temperature was all over the shop, managed to cure it simply by removing bad twists in wires to temp sender!

cheers

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the sudden loss of coolant due to the rad hose dropping off has been known to result in a HGF.
The fluctuating temps and the fact that you keep bleeding air out suggets to me that you HG has gone, as I suffered simalar symptoms.
Might be an idea to get it checked so you don't destoy your head.
