Elise buying advice please.
Discussion
Hi all,
I am toying with the idea of buying an S1 elise, i have never owned one before and was lookin for some advice.
Anything 2 look for on the cars, particualy usefull optional extras, running costs/problems etc. All advice welcome
Secondly i am pretty sure i will only be able 2 insure a standard elise. I have also been lookin at 172 Clios. Anybody driven both??
The big question, Would it be better 2 purchase a clio for the time being and get a elise sport 135/160 when the insurance is more feasible??? Are they that much better 2 drive?
All coments much appreciated.
Cheers, Alan

Difficult one this, it depends really on what you want. I was in the same position a couple of months ago. I tested a standard S1 and it was great, not especially fast but a great car. I then tested an S2, as a comparison, and there was not one. IMHO it was like comparing a kit car with a production car, that kind of put me off the S1. Then I borrowed a S1 for a day, as I have to use my car everyday and for work - it simply was not practical enough space wise and I had real problems getting in and out in very tight office parking spaces with the roof up. That ended that one so I looked at 172s.
These too are great cars. The standard 172 is nice a quick and has good kit etc. But in the end I bought a 172 Cup. Fantastic car, great on the road and track and usable everyday, and the price is fantastic. It is not a sports car, but it is a good fun car, which for me was/is enough.
In answer to your question I would test them back to back and see what goes. If all you want is a nice quick everyday car I would buy the 172. If you want a sports car I would buy the Elise. If insurance is a real killer both will be expensive...
