Just a thought, I drive 60 miles a day on the motorway to work in my Mk1 Elise and it it a bit loud (wuss) with the sports exhaust, but I love the extra power and sound when I am "playing". Sooo... is there any sports exhaust similar to the Mk2 111s which has a valve which could be opened on full throttle or higher revs (or simply via a switch) so I can have the best of both worlds - rorty noise and performance and less tinnitis on the motorway?
Some (much) older cars apparently had a town and country lever which could bypass the silencers when blasting throught the country and could switch them back in for civil town driving, my grandads old Jag had one.

Talk to your Lotus dealer and see if they offer the valve as a retrofit and how much it would cost.

It should be possible to retrofit something like this, shouldn't it?

Oh yeah, tell us what they say... ;->

This butterfly can be used if integrated into a bypass - I would not put it in line on it's own as you would lose power but as poart of a silencer bypass pipe it seems to be a solution!

I do a similar mileage in my S2 it's really loud sports exhaust etc. Personally don't have a problem with the noise unless I'm a little hung over.

Get some of those soft foam ear plugs from Boots, works a treat when onmy bike for cutting out wind and exhaust noise etc.
