Hi Guys,

this is my first post on the forum. I've really enjoyed reading some of the older postings, its a real treasure trove of information.

The reason I'm here is for some advice please.
I'm going for a test drive (111S) on Saturday and if I like the car I'm thinking about putting down a deposit. I think I'll be eligible for the free hardtop (saw it advertised in Evo).

What do you think my chances are for negotiating the price down? Any hints or suggestions would be really appreciated

Excellent choice....

Good luck with it - the 111s s2 is a fine car. I am not sure about any discounts in the past on their special offers they have been a quite firm

but obviously always worth a try..

also if they won't offer hard cash try

floormats
track day at hethel (the instruction they run)
free 1000 mile service - the first A service

etc

good luck - enjoy the test drive

When I got my new S2T72 last June I managed to get 7% discount off list price just by saying thats what I was offered elsewhere. Its winter and they cant be selling many - if you are paying cash then it would be rude not to ask !

Well I went for the test drive and.... I loved it. There is a lot of torque available over the standard car and I was really suprised at the level of refinement(esp. compared to the S1). In fact it was at least as comfortable as my MGF and it was more refined at high speed. The build quality seems excellent and it seems to be easier to get in and out.
Took the car out for about 15-20 miles to really get the hang of it and I tested it out on a number of different types of roads and road surfaces. I even managed to step the back end out when I hit some ice at 50mph... which would be scary in the MGF but was easy in the Elise. In fact after I came out of this car I felt like Mr Schuey & Superman combined ;-). I kept telling myself not to start smiling in the car to make sure I kept the salesman keen but I couldn't help it. By the time I got out the car, I found myself beaming from ear to ear..and I didn't care. This car is sublime.

Thanks for all the great advice on the discout. I put down my deposit today and managed to negotiate an additional 1k off the asking price. I am a pretty happy guy today!
