Hi all,

I'm considering buying an Elise (S1) in the summer. However, I'm only 22, and haven't previously insured a car in my own name (so have no NCB).
Does anyone know of any companies who might give me a reasonable quote? My only saving graces are a clean licence and low expected mileage. Best I've managed so far is about £1500 from Elephant for a standard S1 (bloody hard to find!), or about £1800 for a Sport 135 (if I can find one!)

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Jim

Hi - I'm in a similar position, 22, but with 4 years NCB - I've found tesco the cheapest with a quote of £1100 for a brand new S2 111S.

If possible, try to buy the car in the winter - the prices seem to be lower when the temperature's about
-2C!! - seriously though - the difference in price may be worth considering if you're looking at a huge insurance quote.

I'd like to buy in the winter, but come the summer I probably won't have the use of my Mum's car anymore, so I'll have to buy my own. Bad timing I know!
Tesco come up considerably more expensive for me - I think it's my lack of NCB!

Thanks,

Jim

Good!! Avoid it at all costs... it only leads to bad things (for me - longer hours, less time off, and less time to enjoy the expensive toys that my job has allowed me to buy). Though I suppose it is nice at times to hold the coveted 'Geek' nickname

I'm also in I.T., I guess we need an Elise to rid ourselves of the frustration of sitting in front of a screen all day, I much prefer sitting in front of a windscreen!

Another IT'er 'ere.
Not even graduated yet, so I guess the Elise would be there as in anticipation of the long hours etc!

I'm 23, and pay a relatively reasonable £1400 with Elephant for a slightly modified 1999 111s. I find them to be a pretty good bunch. I have 2 years NCB.

Think I'm in the wrong job..... rolleyes

Anyway, If you try a limited milage policy, you may get some concession. Try Adrian Flux Insurance. I went with their Cherished Vehicles department and managed a reasonable quote of just under £800 with a protected no claims (I'm 26 with 9 years ncb and 6 pts )

Hope this helps.

- unfortunately not for insurance!

Good idea to get out of IT, I'm considering my (limited) options as sitting in front of a monitor for at least 8 hrs daily does nothing for health / eyes / state of mind (even if most of it is on Lotus forums!).

Someone was doing a match renewal quote promise (Barclaycard I think), with a £100 pound excess... might be worth a call.

No good suggestions for companies I'm afraid, they seem to differ so much person to person and week to week, recommendations are amost always out of date.

As a number of posters on this list are suggesting TESCO insurance I thought that I should point out the following.

I took out a TESCO policy on-line and only later found out (when reading the policy) that unless a tracker was installed on the vehicle it would not be covered for theft!

Cancelled the policy and took out one with Norwich union direct. Only an extra £50 and no need for tracker etc. Also lost a few quid cancelling the tesco insurance but still less than the cost of a tracker.

I think it does differ from driver to driver. I'm in my thirties and am with 'More Than', 7 yrs NCB and it costs me £540 fully comp.

I am 27 and More Than wouldn't insure me because I was under 30. Liverpoolvictoria.co.uk gave me a cheaper quote than Tesco without the need for a tracker (6 yrs NCB, 4 points)

How does one get more than five years NCD. I have had insurance on one car or another for about 12 years. Have only made one claim during this time (about seven years ago) and yet my insurance company tell me that I only have five years NCB and that this is the maximum possible.

Is there any way to convince an insurance company that you deserve more years of NCB?
