Hi,

Although a current Pug 406 coupe v6 owner, I'm on the verge of purchasing a shiny new Lotus Elise 111S. I had a drive at the weekend & was really impressed with the handling, speed, and especially the acceleration at low revs. What I'm wondering though, is whether the 111 is quicker than the likes of Scooby turbos, Evo 6 / 7's and M3's - does the answer vary if the weather is wet or dry?

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Dave

Ohhhh, the old is my car quicker than car x question. There are so many variables to take into consideration that it's usually best to avoid making any bold claims about the performance of your car and just get on with enjoying it for what it's good at!

The Scooby and Elise are two very different machines, designed to do very different things. The Subaru is a rally car so will be quicker than the Elise 90% of the time, especially on wet/snowy/gravelly roads! It will also be quicker on the Autobahn because it has much more power.

Give the Elise a twisty track or country road though and it will shine, the light weight will help it get through corners quicker than a scooby. This obviously depends on the driver's skill and desire to go quickly.

All the above is of course in my opinion.

What I love with the Elise is that it feels faster than it is.You can have a lot of fun at slower speeds.
It makes a lot of sense with the current level of speed cameras.

By the way, when I refer to Scooby, the same applies to Evos and the like, and to a certain extent the M3 but the M3 is rear wheel drive not 4 wheel drive so is different again.

And yes, the conditions make a huge difference. An Elise in the dry sticks to the road like a squashed rabbit, but in the cold and wet cannot be pushed nearly as hard by the average driver so a four wheel drive turbo monster will always fare better.
