What would be your realistic choice of car IF you were forced to avoid the Lotus brand (and the VX)?
By realistic, I mean financally. I am not curious about your dream car but the one you would really choose if all lotus disappearred on earth.
Thanks for the reply

I'd buy a shed and the silliest caterfield I could afford, maybe something with a V8.

road legal go-kart with a V8 strapped to it !

Others may be:

Clio 182
Civic type R with supercharger
S2000
M3 roadster
Any TVR

Driven all of them, all great but none are as much fun as the elise.

Hmmm Very difficult!
Clio 182?
Why would I want a slow car!

Civic Type R
I used to really love these things and they still handle really well but I got into one the other day and it felt HUGE and the interior BLEUGH

S2000
I just felt business like, no passion. It felt like getting into an office, no sence of occasion.

M3
Everyone knows how I feel about BMW.

Ferrari
Not a new one too footballer but a classic dino, I still want one for sundays!

It would have to be an Ultima. Faster, better handling and just as raw or an atom SC with an "ible" car tucked away (Pajero Evo!)

TVR
I am not sure - I have had a dealer say he wouldnt inflict TVR on his worst enemy, I am willing to be converted.

when it may not be expensive or dreamcar or lotus or vx....
what about a toyota mk3(2000 and up?) they seem to drive good and sporty, put a turbo or even better a supercharger on it and you also have a nice rwd fun to drive car that is also not that heavy and great response for such a car...

but my dreamlist is an Ultima GTR 600+hp(modern engine) or a Wiesmann GT V8 or a Lotus Exige Cup compressor or Elise Compressor 250+hp cars.
But I must say the Gumpert Apollo is also very tempting, I saw it on the Essen Motorshow on Sunday and its got a very nice interior and extravagant exterior...see picture, and weights below 1100kg and has an 650hp biturbo audi engine...rrrrrrrrrrrrr

Gooby,

the clio 182 aint slow. they can be thrown into just about any corner at any speed and be ok. I've seen some in action and they can crazy ! A serious piece of kit in good hands. and so cheap. Just a shame about the interior.

My dads TVR Cerbera 4.2 which he bought from new. P reg now, has never broken down. sure its had faults but I would'nt same any more than my elise. Ofcourse the cost is higher, but thats one silly fast car. I still find the elise more fun to drive, but the ability to scare yourself with sheer acceleration alone is something the elise will never do forgetting the 240 R and the boys lucky enough to have supercharged honda power......

Easy, a Caterham. R400 probably. Totally mental.

Well I'd need the practicality that a Caterham can't realistically offer as an everyday, park outside car. Cars that entered my radar at the time of buying were the MR2 and Nissan 350Z so probably one of those.

Sorry, sarcasm doesnt / didnt transmit very well regarding the clio. Yep it is quick but not as quick as the people who drive them think.

As we all know there is an exeption that proves any rule. Though I would not wish any type of mechanical departure on you father, for every one that is good the ratio of bad far exceeds. That may be wrong but having seen and heard about some of the bad ones I am "hesitant" about taking the risk.

Tempted with a 2005 Mustang GT, Chrysler 300C, was with the MG ZT 260 V8, the new Mitsu EVO and the Hybusa engined mini.

I think the vote would go to restored BMW 3.0 CSi with A/c. 4 seats for the kids.
