Tried out a S2 111s for the first time yesterday and loved it, however one thing that grated was the engine note at idle - it really sounds rough - tappety and almost agricultural.
I commented on this to the salesman and he said that it was due to the engine being new (only just finished running in) and proceeded to start up an older (2yr old) car which sounded as sweet as a nut - the reason being that it had all loosened up - TADTS.
Is he right and this is something I can stop worrying about as I will be buying second hand and so this will not be a problem or do some engines run smooth and some rough (as in a tractor really)?
Thanks
Miles

if the tappety noise goes away once warm then I wouldnt worry...an oil change and a good thrash will cure it - if its tappety still when warm then I wouldnt bother - find another...also good idea to have a listen to a few std engines to get a feel for what it should sound like

Bear in mind that the vvc mechanism is noisier than the standard. However, sja and one other person ?1stpetrolhead if recollection serves me, both posted regarding their noisy vvc engines. Bothe are recent model 111s cars and both are having the vvc mechanisms replaced as a result. My 111s is not really anything like the sound they posted. Read this thread and decide for yourself. If in doubt, find another.
