Selling my 111R... What's it worth?
Discussion
Think my 111R has to go... I'm seriously racking up the miles at the moment (job has changed, same company) and basically the R isn't really the car for the job. Another 320 miles of motorway yesterday and literally almost no corners - mild paralysis when I arrived home as well.
So, I have a plan... Going to opt in to the company car scheme (low co2 and tax car) and sell my 111R. Then... I'm almost certainly going to buy an S1 or early S2 for track days and the weekends with a view to full conversion (Honda / Audi) in the next few years....
The big question is, what's my 111R worth? Looks as if the prices have just plummeted to around £23K - is this the winter or will things pick up again when Spring arrives?
Mine has aircon / touring...
What would you sell for and where’s the best place - ebay / autotrader / ph?
Rob.
Edit: 5500 miles.

Really sorry to ear about your decision.
I was happy to share the R experience with you.
As I was thinking moving to an exige, I asked my dealer a price for my R (june 2005, TP , NO airco, metal paint, 5000 miles, with ITG, normal exhaust) he said 42000 euros, which should be around 28000£ but that was in the mind of buying a exige. What I won't do finally.... other topic.
Good luck. Personnally, I would not try with ebay for security reason, would try via specialized press, clubs and dealers..(especially if you want to move to another lotus in the future)

Hi there Rob,
I agree, don't do it buy something cheap and just rack up the miles

What about getting the latest type of seats in them? they seemd to give a 30% better bloodflow(special back design) so your more relaxt when your get home?
Those are the seats from the new elise/exige update! those seem to be much better? so they say, maybe thats an option.

Currenty trading in my 111r 04 for a new one ( TP & Met paint 13500 miles ) have been offered £23,000 buy a dealer.
Dont know myself to go for it or not hope this helps.
Out of interest, why would you trade in a two year old (max) car for the same model but brand new? Having taken the biggest depreciation hit, you then sign up to do it all again? I'm not criticising (sp?), just curious

Thanks for the replies.
The other issue is that with 3 kids, I tend to only use the R for work which is not much fun! Things will get easier over the next few years but right now I'm using the Elise for motorway only which is loading the miles up.
Retrospectively, I wish I'd gone for a cheap S2 / S1 which wouldn't have cost too much and I could have justified it being in the garage most of the time - this is what I have planned for the future.
I don't want to go the route of a shed - too many miles really…
So... what would you guys sell for in terms of £££'s...?

Hi all,
We just did the same thing, think there were a few reason's warranty, servicing coast's, new car, tyres, correct spec, correct colour, great deal, I also just liked having another new car. Drove the exige and had already put by the money so for us it made perfect sense

How it came about a purchase of a new 111r when you have a 04 model is as follows.
Went to the dealer for a service got talking and he offered my a O5 111r exactly the same as mine but with a/c for what I think was a very good price so with the trade in he offered me it looks like a good deal.
Mmmm,
I think these estimates are very optimistic - I think with winter bearing down on us you'd be very lucky to get much over 14K for her. Just the way things are I'm afraid.
Tell you what Rob - I'm after a motorway cruiser and I'm a generous guy, I'll give you 15K??
Better still - how about a straight swap for my lovely - track ready S1?
God I'm such a decent guy!

I am sorry but instead of helping and actually giving you information that may help, I am still going to try and talk you out of it. Can you fit sat nav and plot routes around the motorway? It is quicker too!
The only problem I have found with this is that by the time I get to a meering I am buzzing so much, I cant sit down let alone concentrate on the meeting!

I love the car - I honestly do... But, for what I paid, it needs to be used every day and my work is such that it's either M11 or M25 / M4... As for shortest route, good idea but not enough time - I'm always late as it is!
Worth a try eh Rob - Mmm maybe not!
Think you'll be sad to see the R go but I don't see the point in hanging on to it and trying to make it into something that it was never meant to be. Comfy seats and sat nav - no thanks!
I think getting a commuter wagon then building up a hardcore S1 as weekend / track day special is defo the way to go.
Best of luck

I know I'll be sad to let it go but don't see any other option - £30K's worth of car (when new) cannot be locked away in my garage! Maybe the new Europa may offer me what I want, we'll have to see...

A few of those reasons don't stack up to me, and it seems a bit crazy to spend and extra £5k-ish for air con but if you've got the cash and it makes you happy.....
