I found out recently that the factory have stopped supplying Janspeed sports exhausts as standard and are now supplying magnex instead. Is this true?
What is the difference in sound of the Janspeed compared to the Magnex? If you fitted a Janspeed exhaust to the car would your cars warranty be void even though it used to be a factory approved component

Yes. Has been this way for quite some time now. JanSpeed went bust at the beginning of this year, so Lotus chose a different exhaust manufacturer even though JanSpeed has now re-started again.

I haven't heard it myself yet, but others reported that the Magnex/CLF unit is a bit more 'boomy' than the JanSpeed units, but otherwise it's not that different.

Officially they could probably void the warranty in certain area's. I doubt they could give you grief if a wheel fell off and then claim it wasn't covered because a non-standard exhaust was fitted.

If the engine develops problems then there may be some gray area though.

Safest bet warranty-wise will always be to go to a Lotus dealer and have them install the official one.

If you want an 'official' Lotus-JanSpeed then some original ones may still be kicking around in some dealer's storage somewhere.

I have the official Magnex one on my S2. IMO I prefer the sound to the Janspeed. Its not as loud inside the car and sounds deeper than the Janspeed from the outside of the car. Dont pay full price for one - try to negotiate a discount - say youre going elsewhere for a Janspeed if they dont reduce the price a bit ! :-)
