Sorry to bring up this old chestnut again - I've read every comment on elise sites, yet still have unanswered questions.

Soon I will need to replace rear P0's on my standard S1. Obviously the dedicated yoko's sound damn good (pricey for the full set though!) but I have one big concern: On standard rims (5.5, 7) aren't the widths 195, 225) a bit much - especially at the front? The last thing I want is to fork out and then find the car all wallowy with less response from the front.....
Could any drivers with experience of changing from P0's to the yoko LTS's on standard rims please relate their opinions?

With this concern in mind I am tempted by the alternative of a pair of wider 225 P0's for the rear only - I've not had much problem so far in the wet with 205 P0's....... any thoughts?

No, they are designed for standard rims. You will NOT have a problem with them, they are better than the P-Zeros in every way. Do it.

jon definatley get off the P-zeros. I don't own an Elise but I do know a tyre specialist and the P-zeros were designed for a heavier car. In the wet the P-zeros simply won't push the water out of the way.

Jonboy, do as Bonce suggested.

I put the Yokos on standard rims and have had no problems at all.

It's Bookatrack.com or Lotus dealers only I'm afraid. You'll be looking at around £450 including fitting.

Not cheap but definitely, definitely worth it.

Got mine for £400 fitted from Haydons in Salisbury.

Lakeside were doing a similar price, but that was about 7 months when I last enquired.

Edited to say all 4.

Not sure about Toyo P's on an elise. They are a good tyre but are a very hard compound and I would suspect they are made for heavier cars (like the P0's).

Go with the Yoko Advans, every report I've ever read on elise tyres say they are the best all round choice. For Track days consider another set of wheels and Yoko A038R's. (Not cheap I know)

Advans here as well.

As for handling - no change for the worse in my opinion. Benifits are better looks and better front end grip/less understeer.

Go get 'um.

Well, thanks to everyone for the unanimous advice - now I want them real bad, but don't know that my credit card can take the pressure. No xmas bonus this year, boo etc.
I'll just go away and do my sums......
cheers

I put PZero's on my Esprit GT3 and replaced them with Eagles as the PZero's are just terrible in the wet. Don't waste your money on them !

If the Yokos are too expensive then the Bridgestones I think come both cheaper and with better distrobution.

Try this for invaluable advice from Lotus itself...

Bridgestone SO2 marginally worse than Yoko, but both wildly better than P-Zero's.

S02's no longer available (unless you are lucky and find some), however, the S03 is amazing in the wet and winter is here.
I paid £340 inc. vat and fitting from Micheldever Tyres.
They are not bad in the dry either but not as good as Neovas from what I have read.
I feel the 225/195 tyres are too wide for standard rims (just) but my supension is such a mess it is difficult to know.
P Zero's are dangerous in the wet, on an Elise, in my opinion. Get some modern tyres!

Advans, very smooth, good wet and dry grip, much better ride quality than the Bridgestones . . .

A few of us Scots have been running S03's with some success, at this tome of year the trick is wet weather grip, which the S03 seems to provide . . . personally I have a set of Advans and I rate them highly . . .

I also have a set of Maxsport RB5 cut slicks for the track, 200 quid a set, double the grip in anything apart from standing water . . . :-)

Jonboy,

Someone on the other board was saying that JCT600 (?) was doing a full set of advans for 360 fitted balanced etc, dunno if that is any use to you - depends where you are based I guess.

Might be worth a look - somewhere devon way doesn't charge fitting and balancing on tyres that they supply, sorry I'm not sure of any of the names off hand, I'll post a link if i find out more.

BTW, I switched from p0 s to Advans, far more prectable in the wet/cold - miles and miles better!

Just be careful until they have been scrubbed in and then for the first two corners of all subsequent journeys in the wet/very cold!

I swapped from PZero's to Advans a couple of weeks ago - change now!! They are fine on standard rims, and make the car look a lot meaner from the back!
