BIG Water leak!

You guys using your elise every day, I have had my elise for two weeks and only just experienced heavy rain. The roof doesn''t just leak IT POURS IN!! Does anybody have any suggestions about how to reduce the amount of water ingress becuse I got soaked driving home the other day! ;( mailto: [e-mail] Thanks Ben

If your elise is second hand, its probably due to the previous owner pulling on the side of the hood when squeezing themselves in and out, over time this obviously stretches the hood, making them useless. If youve got a new elise then basically your stuffed buy a jacket!

Its a 98R but I don't think its been abused. It only had 5500 miles and was garaged all its life. Thanks for the suggestion... any more ideas?

I'd suggest the first thing you do when it is sunny is get yourself a watering can full of water and walk round the roof pouring water over it until you work out where the major leaks are. After that, examine the seal between the roof and the windows, frame etc...and see if you can work out why there's a gap - was it just badly fit, or has it moved as James suggests...after that Im guessing a bit of ingenuity and adding to the bottom of the roof might help? N

I hate to admit it but nightmare might be right, often, youll find the hood was at a slight angle/not centrally fitted and that obviously leaves huge gaps, that cause leaks. You can also adjust the hood tautness at the rear, with the alan key youll find behind the passenger seat. You basically pull up the rear fixings, but this is very limited and if overdone will just stop the fixings from mating.

The only thing I can suggest is making sure that you fix the roof perfectly (lined up with the centre mark). Mine has never leaked until this weekend, the reason was that in the hot weather I just threw the roof on quickly without lining it up properly, and the water pee'd in during a downpour. I refitted the roof and it hasn't leaked again since!

Thanks for the great response folks! I suspect I may have just quickly fixed the roof and not lined it up properly... I will check this again as and when the great british weather allows! Regards B
