After reading a few of your articles, I think you are the guys I need to be talking to, not the dealers trying to off load their junk!!!

I have recently purchased a standard S2 with a noisey exhaust, its a wicked little car however 3 weeks down the line I have decided that I would like a little more straight line grunt.

The car handles like a dream but I was I little upset to see my car only marginally pulling away from a 4 Motion Golf from 80mph. The car feels at high revs as if it's being strangled, would a performance air filter assist ?

Does anyone know of any decent mods that will not affect my mortgage!

Where do you want to start?

You need to reliase of course, that you will be cricifying your re-sale value once it's modified, but if you do wantto go ahead, try elises.com for some good hints. 160bhp s relatively easy (and is a decent hike from standard), and there are firms offering turbo conversions that will take you over 200. Starts to cost a fair mid at that point, though.

Are you already making use of the revs all the way to the red line? Remember, an Elise isn't going to pull well in the wrong gear.

Two words - Turbo Technics. An easy supercharged 190 or 230 bhp with loads of torque. Transforms the car but will hit the resale value...

One northern boy 2 another,

Cheers for the tip, I was looking firstly at the bolt on options so that at least my re-sale value doesn't drop as much. What difference does the ITG filter do? is it worth the £350?

Redline should be my middle name, I'm not into doodling around at low rev's! as recent blast with an XK8 driver?

I just need that bit more G force..

To think that no-one believed me that the Elise needed more grunt to keep up with the rest of the traffic. An honest owner speaks out!

What's this i told you so? I hope I haven't started something!

In defence the Elise is a quick car considering it takes anything with 200bhp+ to keep up with it (motorway driving) Around the twisty stuff, you might as well stick to cruising around your local McDonalds carpark....

What other car handles like it has just come out of the Tron movie....

Try a sport 190 which is an Elise with the same VHPD engine that is in the exige.190bhp 0-60 5.1 topspeed 140 [i think] and if you are still unsatisfied get a TT260 conversion from Turbotechnics 0-60 4.1 topspeed 155+.
Remember when you add power you may have to update/upgrade suspension/brakes/exaust ect.To keep the car same [ie. handling] £33000.00 for a 190 with new elise do the maths for the upgrade and £42000 for a 190 with TT260 .

You haven't started anything, but he is trying to, he's a Troll, someone who owned an Elise for a year, didn't like it (couldn't drive it if you read his profile), and now thinks that it's impossible for anybody else to appreciate the car, so he trolls this forum instead of discussing his Blue Rinse Brigade Civic's terminal oil consumption problems or build quality issues on the relevant forum . . .

Why on earth do people keep trying to critiscise the Elise as being slow?

Yes, it can handle more power, which is why a lot of us have non standard ones, but they are certainly fast.

Although am usd to some extreme acceleration on the roads (0-100mph in 6 seconds), which is at least close to the very best supercars, I still hugely enjoy driving my (well, the wife's actually) Elise.

Come to think of it, my most fun vehicle only has 25bhp, yet is still an absolute hoot to drive.

Who is this Adewuff character? If you're unhappy with the power, but wants the chassis, get a 300bhp concvesion. If that's not enough, get a 360 modena. If you can't afford that, then accept, like the rest of us do, that your car is more compromised than you'd like it to be, but that that is going to be the case with everything you buy.

hungryjim - sorry to be a pedant but std Exige VHPD has 177bhp, upgrade conversion, circa £1k brings it up to 190. Both are more than adequate!!

As usual Fergus(I have a problem)D steps in to get personal. I feel pity for you, as you obviously have a really large chip on your shoulder and wish to take it out on someone else. I do hope your plastic car gives you the phallic extension that you obviously need!

How is the Elise anymore or less a phallic symbol than a CTR?

adeewuff you clearly expected something different from your Elise experience. I would like to propose that maybe you have a problem in excepting that you did not know how to drive the Elise to get the best from it. Just an observation!

If you had a problem revving the K series and using the gears to hustle the Elise along, I am curious to know how you are copping with your CTR.

Our plastic cars are doing just fine, how is your scuffed / scratched interior trim? Did Honda listen to you guys yet?

OK guys, so the only way to get back at me is through digging about in my profile and getting personal. Well that's pretty low I'm afraid, never even thought about doing that to anyone else.
I did the Elise training course up at Hethel and learnt alot about my car. Hey I even got an award for doing well in the slalom test, that's recognition for my driving from the Lotus test drivers - thank you.

Your comments about about my driving are totally unfounded and if it's supposed to provoke some angry outburst then I'm afraid you won't get it - sorry. I can only think about some reference to my profile about cornering in the wet in the Elise. Well having the Pirellis on my car didn't help obviously but I used to have the rear end come out of line at 20-30mph on a wet road. I know exactly what to do in this situation but I don't want to be applying opposite lock while pootling about at low speed. It's unwanted and above all the other road users don't like you going sideways and taking up one and a half lanes of roundabout!!

As for my Civic (Shopping Cart, Blue Rinse Brigade, Insert provocative comment here) it's great. Don't have alot of the problems as discussed elsewhere on this board, I think the prblems refer to the earlier builds, so can't comment really.

As for my problem with the Elise I admit it didn't meet my expectations to be honest. Certainly when I first got it I drove it like I stole it, I'm certainly alot less 'mature' than the majority of you guys here so felt obliged to give it some welly when the chance arose. However it just was not fast enough, cornering was great but when you come out of that corner and there's a nice straight bit of road infront of you I want to go FAST! Maybe I was spoilt in my Dads Jag when I was younger, I remember looking over my Dad's shoulder in the car and seeing the speedo knudge 150mph! Slowly but surely I got frustrated with it and in the end I just felt disappointment every time I drove it.

So yes maybe some of my comments have been a little unfair but I don't mean them to be nasty - usually a fair amount of sarcasm - but never any genuine nastiness there.

So there you go, I shouldn't have to justify myself for saying anything on this forum but I wanted to make things crystal clear. So Fergusd, want me to pass judgement on your personal homepage and girlfriend it's only fair now isn't it??

How come you moved from a sports car to a hatchback?

Do you think that you just realised that sports cars aren't your thing?

If you don't really like sports car handlng, then it is of course pretty understandable that you didn't like the Elise. For me, it just felt the most "right" of anything I've driven, while I've been left cold by hot hatches.

You see, whereas you were unsettled by the rear end coming unstuck at low speed, I quite enjoy it.

Tastes in cars are so subjective that it doesn't make much sense to criticise someone else's choice over what you would yourself have chosen.

Edited to add, if you thought that the Elise wasn't fast, why on earth have you just bought a car that takes over 6 seconds to 60? It doesn't really fit with your previous comments. Fast is sub 5, acceptable is sub 6, over 6, forget it man.

adeewuff, I did'nt 'dig around' in your profile.....I was going from memory. We all know you had an Elise, and I think I saw some of your comments somewhere regarding the CTR, so my remarks are correct.

I was not taking a dig at your driving ability, just how you drove the Elise. And as I said I was curious why the CTR is perfect for you (but now I'm not bothered). I have spent many hours in a S2000 and CTR, and a good friend who has just bought a CTR who has confirmed what I think.....you need to keep the revs up and use the gears to go fast......either in a straight line or the twisty bits.

I thought it was all harmless ribbing.....but if you are offened then I guess I owe you an apology.

Fair comment, it wasn't that I didn't like the handling - I loved the cornering and using the rear end to tighten the line in a corner - it was that in poor weather it was a chore to drive rather than a delight. Yes it's fair to say that I shouldn't have the Elise as an everyday car and that it wasn't designed for it, but in this country for 9 months of the year rain is all we ever get!

The impracticality of it also got me, I honestly don't have a clue how some of you couples with Elises cope with the tiny boot. My girlfriend certainly wasn't going to scrunch any of her clothes up when she went away with me and getting dripped on by ill fitting roof was the last thing she wanted happening.

Ultimately after having owned it I had to ask myself why I ever comtemplated getting it in the first place. The answer quite simply is that it was my dream car from the day it came out and just imagine how disappointed I felt when it didn't meet my expectations? Gutted is the best way to describe it.

Anyway my heart is set on a Porsche 911 or maybe a BMW M3 so yes I'm still very much into my sports cars. All I need now is the patience to wait until I have enough funds to think about buying one!

I'm not a traffic light grand prix racer myself - no point. When I drove at Goodwood the bare minimum speed you are doing is 60mph there is nowhere to go slower therefore all the performance is needed above this speed. If a CTR and a standard Elise decided to drag race each other, unrealistic but bare with me, the CTR would reach 100mph 3 seconds faster than the Elise. So in terms of pure speed which car is now faster?

I don't want to turn this into another CTR thread so just treat this as an example and not a pro Honda comment.

If you want to talk drag racing, you'd find that even the slowest Elise would be ahead of the civic when the Civic hit 100.

An important question, though, is why you are repeatedly picking the slowest Elise variant, and comparing it with the fastest civic variant. You may as well call am M3 slow, and then post the stats from a 316i.

My main point, though, was that it's a bit strange to criticise a car for being slow, and then pick something else which is also well below par in a straight line. If speed is your thing, you could be running a 996 for less per year than your civic.

Simple - price. I have no problem comparing a £16k car with a £23k plus the standard Elise is the most popular one on the road today. After my passion for the Elise ran out I wanted a new car that was about the same amount of money I could trade the Elise for + a little more. For some reason a Porsche 996 doesn't quite fall into that price range!

If you ever have the opportunity to see a CTR on a fast track then I can guarantee it will surprise you. Very dependant on the driver of course but they are capable of setting an excellent pace - not bad for something you can pop down to Ikea in huh?
