S1(200MY) Exige 190 with 16K on the clock.

How much would running costs be to do 25K miles per year? (No track days)

Thanks in advance

I think you slightly miss the point of the S1 Exige!

The VHPD lump is not really an ideal choice for those kind of miles as it'll need a good freshen up once a year and selling a high mileage Exige would be nigh on impossible.

Just to explain why the high mileage, I'm looking into a few car sharing ideas with some mates and the Exige S1 made the shortlist of perfect "Weekend" cars.

Still interested in the costs though if possible. Thanks again.

yep - probably ...or stick a HOnda or Audi engine in it for reliability at that mileage - get the ropiest Exige you can find and spend £10-15K sorting it out if its gonna be a shared track/weekend car

41k miles on my S1 Exige, approx 10 trackdays included. No rebuilds needed yet, uses no oil - touch wood.

Depends entirely how they've been treated, had mine since 2k miles..

Contrary to popular belief the VHPD is a cracking, reliable motor

lol!

no way can it use 'no oil', the std 118Bhp versions use some as *all* engines do.

as for reliable, just do a count up of all the ones that have gone BANG, it's a significant %

Fair play - if you're after a car for that kind of thing then a Sport 160 Elise may be more up your street. They're less highly strung and if it's a weekend car then I'd count taking the roof off as a bonus! Personally I'd only go for an Exige if I was doing trackdays.

On the cost front, with flawless reliability you'll be looking at:

Tyres - £550 to £650 a set (Yoko A048s or A039s)

Not sure on serviciong for a VHPD - might need more frequent oil changes but an A service is £110 to £300 quid depending on whether a specialist or dealer does the job.

Brakes - pads are £220ish for Pagids, Mintex are cheaper and EBC Greenstuff cheaper again. Discs are anywhere between £100 per pair up to £240.

Clanger you serious about the oil?. Mine uses absolutely loads when thrashed, on a typical b road it uses 3/4 litre every 150 miles. When taking it easy about 1 litre every 800 miles.

Seriously it uses bugga all - oil changed every 3k miles with Mobil Synthetic 15/50 - uses 1/2 litre at most between changes if car done a trackday. K series looks after you if you look after it...

BTW anyone want a Honda Type R engine?, got one for sale for offers over £650...

Well I do not know about the other guys, but my first S1 exige did 55k in my first year of ownership. Nothing major just the usuall service charges. The only problem its every 6k.

With reference to the point of the Exige, its there to be driven:0 pure and simple.

Some engines come better made than others, but driving habits have a lot to do with longevity.

I tend never to cane the engine from cold (but not it even has a remote thermostat, a must), but suffered a HGF when doing a trackday last winter and the engine was at 48 degC.
Yep, the thermostat had gone, but instead of going home I chose to track it.

And the thermostat had gone when the engine overheated due to the rad grill being plugged with leaves in a run.

Anyway, costs? depends a lot. You have to budget tyres, 2 rears for 1 front, depending on use, they'll last anywhere between 4K miles to 10K miles.
Do you do your own servicing? If not, budget in services every 6K or so.

And then you still have the odd thing breaking like CV joints, bearings, bushings, etc.

But like said before, don't buy an S1 if you're not going to track it, it'd just be wasted.

Besides, what's wrong with the track? Afraid you'll damage it? The road is more dangerous IMO
