Congratulations Mark,

By the way, what are the detailed specs of the Exige Cup 240, and what options/trim packages/colours are available? Also read that there's a "regular" and a "track" version of this new model. Did your dealer confirm this? If so, what are the differences, etc.?

Thanks for any additional info...

Cheers,

Kevin

Ordered one last week.
The spec of the Exige cup 240 is the same as the 240R but it has traction control and you can have it in any colour on the Exige list or match to a sample.
The Exige cup 240 race has the roll bar and kill switch for the track.
The Exige cup 240 road version is 46k and like the the 240R 50 cars worldwide.

I have driven the 240R on a very wet Knock Hill. Its a great car, amazingly flat torque curve means you can afford to relax a bit with gear changes. The power delivery is so different it feels incredibly linear. plus the Ohlins are sweet
Been thinking about an SC myself

Hello Guys,

Well, bad news on the Exige Cup 240 scene here in Tokyo, at least for me. I've been waiting for a "Road" biased variant of the supercharged Exige and thought, based on both Mark Kitchen and Paul North's descriptions of the two variants of Cup models just released, that I'd finally found the car I've been waiting for.

I contacted the Tokyo Lotus Centre the other day after reading this e-mail string and they confirmed they'll receive 30 examples of the "Road" version. So, with great anticipation, and checkbook at the ready, I made an appointment and visited them yesterday morning to see their display model.

With Mark and Paul's info etched in my mind on what the Cup 240 "Road" variant specs are in the UK (i.e., essentially a 240R with optional T/C and full color options), I was very disappointed to find that, at least for the Japanese market, the Exige Cup cars coming here will be in two flavors, but with different specs than the UK "Road" models. And, except for the engine differences, the specs for both cars are the same:

- The supercharged 240
- And a standard, non-supercharged, 190 model

The biggest, and most significant, difference from the UK models of the Exige Cup 240 for the Japanese market is that both the versions mentioned above are actually specced as "Track" versions, even though they are being advertised here as "Road" versions with the full roll cage, internal and external fire extinguisher and ignition kill switches, no radio, etc. This seemed a disconnect and I mentioned this to the salesman but, he could only say that cars coming to Japan sometimes come in different form than UK models. And, naturally, ordering a UK-spec "Road" variant for here in Japan was not possible... A double whammy!

So, with a heavy heart, I must now await to see what, if any, subsequent supercharged Exige model(s) will be offered in the future. I presume at this point though that the Geneva Motor Show will be the next logical opportunity to unveil a new version of the supercharged Exige since Lotus will not be present at the Tokyo Motor Show which opened to the public this weekend.

In the meantime guys, I would very much appreciate any info you all hear about rumored, or otherwise, new supercharged Exige variants coming down the line...

For now, for you lucky few in the UK who will be getting the true "Road" version of the Exige Cup 240, I wish you all the best and remain very excited for you. And, I look forward to hearing about your cars once you take delivery. For my part I'll keep you all posted as I hear things on this end for what's in store for the Japanese market -- presuming you guys are interested. All the best...

Cheers,

Kevin

From the info I have seen on the UK cup 240R is that as a Cup car just like the non-SC cup car. They have electric cut off and fire extigisher and roll cage. In this spec it wont be the best road car but for track fans it could be good.

No mate, there is a UK road Exige Cup 240 and a race version with the roll cage.
I have the spec sheet of the road and race Cup cars in front of me and the roll cage/fire extigisher/kill switch are not options on the road version ,only on the cup 240 race.
Like i said its the same as the 240R but with TC.

You will NOT be dissapointed !!!!! If the 6K RPM switch takes just too long to wait for the you will love the way in which this car fills the gap. The delivery is superb compared to the standard Exige and to be honest I love the whine as it adds to the thrill (no, i can't believe I said that either!!!).
Enjoy it !!!!!

For Paul North (aka, Moominter),

If possible, are you in a position to either post or e-mail me the spec sheets you have for the Race and Road versions of the Exige Cup 240?

Thanks,

Kevin

I can fax it if you have one, the spec sheets are faxed from the dealer and the text is small but you can just about read it.

I think on the S/C cars the second cam comes in at 4,500 rpm...

Sorry, i was referring to a standard Elise/Exige with the 6K quote-Yes, it is much lower on the S/C. It makes for a very entertaining drive. I am not a great fan of having to wait for the revs to rise before heading for the horizon, I much prefer the feel of the VX220 Turbo and also, hopefully without giving too much away, the new Europa too!! ;-)
