Ridiculous elise racecar
Discussion
A number of topics on this forum have debated the "ultimate elise" : esthi's, honda engines etc etc.
I spent yesterday doing an Andy Walsh training day - probably the most useful money I have spent on the elise since I got. Blend of learning and fun (the slalom course was fun - so was getting round 4 seconds quicker than a 293bhp Scooby) Sorry getting off the point...
Andy is just unbelievable - to top it, he told us he will be driving a race prepared elise with the new motopower 2.4l V8 ( www.motopower.co.uk/ ). This is one of the double bike engined motors running through a sequential box. The whole unit weighs around 78kg, so no worries about the weight balance. Not wanting to be mediocre, they will supercharge it. 550bhp for heavens sakes! The whole car in race trim with that engine will no doubt be way under 700kg (<600kg might be possible) This means 800-900 bhp / kg.
Good thing its Andy driving that monster. (he already used a N/A 2.0l V8 in a Caterham in his DVD and apparently that is mad enough). No doubt we will have to keep an eye on the tracks for this beast to emerge.

yup - Ive seen the car down at www.sinclairebodyshop.co.uk ...it should be fun...Andy said he had trouble putting the power down though
£25K for an engine conversion is a bit much for most though !

If he has trouble putting the power down, I am sure it will definitely be ridiclous for most of the rest of us. (though I mentioned this car more as a laugh!) I am surprised that he said he would be running on standard wheels, 048's and nitrons. One wonders if they will have to widen up the bodywork to get a wider track and more rubber to aid traction (like the exigesport 3.0l)
Sounds madder than a rabid pitbull! Did the car look standard from the outside?

I think the whole Elise world will be watching Andy when this thing finally comes to fruition.
Good to read you had fun on your day at North Weald. I'm off for my first one on the 21st. Can't wait... although letting a maniacal Welshman with an apparent penchant for copius quantities of booze loose on me & my P&J is making me slightly nervous!
I'm sure it's going to be one of many though

S-works - the day was awesome. Brilliant tuition - he is an unbelieveably astute bloke who is rapidly able to see what you are doing right or wrong. Be prepared to be humbled by what he can do in a car. (your car!)
I got really worried at the beginning when I saw all the smoke pouring off my tyres (I had ~ 2ml of tread at the start) I spent 30 min trying to get someone down to replace the tyres, but surprisingly at the end of the day they were still ok. The S2000 another bloke brought completely shredded his tyres (had brought spares though). Andy helped him with the last of the tread. I want to do one in the wet as well.
I nearly got taken out on the way home by a bloke driving into a roundabout without looking. I was crossing at ~ 40 mph in clear view, but he did not even look in my direction. Dead stop in mid corner which I was really proud of - having practiced it all day made all the difference.
As for Andy's V8 car - I will definitely be up for a passenger lap - brown underwear and all.
