Anyone of you lucky chaps with a fitted Larini for S2 able to post some close up pics? Interested to see how rear pipes look etc (seen yours Tony).. Mine coming off tomorrow..

And what it like cruising at motorway speeds? For the day I have had mine fited its very boomy at 75.. Not what I expected.. :(

Bad news that, I thought it would be ok at 75mph?

You only commute about 10 miles though don't you?

Is it the build quality of the Larini thats the problem Steve, is that the reason the tail pipes are touching the rear grilles?

Not sure if it's build quality as such.. Not enough play on the pipes to allow it to fit through grill properly, so that vibrates and spoils it a bit..

I'm hoping there is a problem and when Larini sort it it will all be ok..

re noise, I do expect it to be loud but only when accelerating, and because of rattle on grill etc I may not be getting the Larini experience!

Also the rear pipes seem to stick out an awful lot more than the pics I seen on Tony's car, hence the pic request..

Definitely something amiss there sja! Not only do they stick out too far, but if they vibrate on the gills then they're marking the steel on the pipes as well as ruining the sound you "should" be enjoying.

I'm still waiting for delivery on mine (S2 with oval pipes) so I'm hoping as I sure you are that this is an isolated incident and that Larini sort things out for you. I hear they have been really easy to deal with.

Good luck and I hope all goes well...Frustrating.

Mac

Cheers, exhaust off now, and back to Larini.. I'l post outcome! If they say its fine not sure what I'll do.. As mentioned it did drone when crusing but could just be down to the bad fit.. Larini helpful on phone and via email so lets hope all will be ok..

I wanted an exhaust that made good noise when driving hard but "quiet'ish" when just pottering about (yes I do just potter sometimes! ) But when mine fitted resonated and boomed..

Sounds like something may be wrong. Mine is a deep drone with a bit of throttle, noisy when you open it up, but find it comfortable when just cruising on the motorway or pootling. Again, not the best fit (one side sticks out a bit more than the other) but I think with some tweaking it'll be perfect.
Hope you get it sorted...good luck

Yeah mine did look a bit daft from the side with one sticking out a different length..

I see from Larini web site they do two models for the S2. The one we got and one with just one big silencer box.. Wonder what the diference is? Prob heavier but quieter?

Yeah same as everyone says above for me; at motorway speeds it's absolutely spot on, not boomy or droany at all.

The aligning of the two tail pipes took a little bit of time...20mins or so...just going back and forth...tightening...moving...tightening, but nothing out of the ordinary.

As I (and others above) have said, service from Larini's been spot on so let's hope they find something and put you at ease.

Certainly doesn't sound like the normal 'Larini experience' !

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Sounds to me like lining up the pipes is quite a "spot on" job and takes a little twoing and froing.

Can't wait to fit mine when it comes.

There's definately something wrong with yours. I'd asume the droning would be the pipes vibrating on the grille.

I had to take my cat replacement pipe off this afternoon for the MOT. I can barely hear it now! CRP back on in the morning I think!

There must be an issue with sja's exhaust. I fitted mine yesterday - the one pipe looks slightly more angled than the other, but you have to look hard. loads of clearance all around with the round pipes, standard S2 grill. Sound is fab - you can make it as quiet as you want. Certainly not excessive at 70mph. Only hassle today was a rattle on the way home - immediately knew it was an undertray bolt - tightened up now great. I have a K/N induction kit - may go back to the standard airbox now that I have the sound I want from the pipe (K/N I believe might acually reduce power). Chase Larini and let us know if you have problems.

I have the standard airbox on my car and intend to keep it that way. I'll have the CRP soon and it's the noise of the exhaust I like - not necessarily a boomy induction (personal taste, really).

Mine didn't fit that well, couldn't be bothered to fiddle with them so just got the guys at lakeside to errr... manipulate it so the left pipe doesn't touch the grill.

Still got about a week to go before I get mine! *stamps foot* Mine should be easier to fit (being an S1, with the tandem tips).... but it should hopefully go ok.. I've managed to track down most of the components I need for the fitting now

But yeah hopefully you guys manage to get your systems sorted... seems to just be an issue with the fitting of the tailpipes?

Hehe well I just got my hurricane on last week and she already sounds so much better than stock.. with a Larini Clubsport, CRP and 4-2-1 it should sound pretty interesting. We don't have to put our cats back in for MOT over here so I can happily leave the bugger sitting in the garage and noone's none the wiser

Larini want me to do some before/after comparisons so I'll do that... expect to see some videos posted up "tonyhetherington-style"

Esprit... The before and after comparrisions, are they going to be rolling road, BHP/Torque figures, or just noise ?

Just for noise.... not going to bother with dyno until I do the ECU at a later date.

The Larini system in conjunction with the induction work I've just done (C/F Hurricane and 52mm Throttle Body) should take me from 118bhp (standard) up to 132-134bhp. This might not sound like a huge amount, but it's enough to be severely noticeable and to knock a couple of tenths off the 0-60 time (more importantly my laptimes).

But yeah... if you're thinking about doing it, just do it.... the horsepower gain may be negligible or smallish (especially if you're just doing one out of the three exhaust things (back box, CRP, 4-2-1) but yeah, the difference in "feel" and throttle response is definitely enough to make it worth your while

I got stung by elephant when I informed them of the exhaust change - £50 for the year + wanted another £50 for my K/N induction. Anyway, I was never happy with the K/N - not a great particle filter anyway, so I took it off with a view to an ITG panel filter. Put the airbox back on - now the Larini is positively civilised. No boominess whatsoever. Quiet at normal traffic speed and raucous when you nail it.

I keep hearing odd remarks from different folks saying that their exhaust isn't a great fit and that in some cases the pipes arn't lining up correctly...Is there a problem with the Larini exhaust???, shouldn't it fit perfectly? or is it that some of you guys are so eager to get it fitted that they arn't spending the time to get a perfect fit?

Mac
