I don't have one, but if I wanted one, how do I get it and how much is it? Do you buy them for 1 year and what do they cover? Sorry to be a dumbass but I've never ever bought a warranty

If no-one responds with more accurate information, then most warranties cost about £400-£500 for a year. I enquired about one recently for an Elise at Bell and Colvill, and I think it was in this range.

They cover most things other than consumables and things like seals; and they cover these things under reasonable wear and tear (for instance, an exhaust heat shield just got broken by a stone on my BMW, and the warranty doesn't cover it - it won't cover the door seals either, which have failed. It did cover an engine sensor that randomly failed though).

I looked into this when it ran out on my car. It was quite expensive from Lotus around the £600 mark I think. The dealer at the time gave me the name of the company that Lotus used and it was £340 with them, the only diff was that Lotus Assist with the AA was not in the non Lotus deal. I cannot remember the company name, they are all the same these days.

Due to the wear and tear clause in the end I did not take any cover.

Your local dealer should be able to quote and supply you with a Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policy.

'Mechanical Breakdown is the failure of a component, causing a sudden stoppage of its function, for a reason other than wear and tear, normal deterioration or negligence. Damage caused by the effect of overheating is not regarded as a mechanical breakdown under the terms of the policy'. Extract from a policy book.

And you will need to ensure that the car is serviced within the policy rules and regulations as well.

Hope this helps.

think I won't be getting one...I'd rather take the risk and deal with it if it happens

Forgot to say, the reason why it is so cheap is that it is based on engine size, not car brand !!

Could you send on a bit more info about that please, £225 doesn't sound bad at all
