Happy new year, folks.

Soon, the time will come to sell my Lotus 350, to make way for something else. The car has cabin modifications. I should be grateful for views on whether the cabin modifications put off or attract potential buyers. I can return the cabin to original. The question is, should I?

The cabin modifications are Tillet B7 full carbon racing seats; Schroth racing harnesses; Momo detachable steering wheel; and HPE Automotive billet shifter (which is awesome – smoother, shorter action and shinier). Also, the shifter is “naked”, with the surround and tunnel trim currently removed.

The car has other modifications that I can’t undo: Harrop TVS1900 supercharger (claimed 410 bhp); oil cooler; carbon spoiler, side skirts, side air scoops and canards; and 2Bular exhaust. Therefore, I won’t be returning the car completely to original, which might affect the question I am posing of whether to return the cabin to original. Some photos below for context. When the time comes, I’ll advertise the car here on Pistonheads.

I look forward to hearing your views!

Its quite heavily modified so id just list as is specifying if you have the original components that could be re fitted.
Possibly just put the original seats back in but its a tricky decision.

I would advertise as currently spec'd and see what interest you get . There will be some potential "buyers" who would prefer an Exige which has the modifications you have made , but this will depend on what price you advertise the car at , especially in a depressed market.

Thanks for the feedback, both.

Yes, I think it's probably sensible to put the original seats back in at least. And probably the original steering wheel, as the detachable Momo has no airbag.

Understood about the depressed market. Pricing has to be realistic!

I'm thinking if I was looking to buy one, then I would prefer to look at others with a more standard interior, not to say that it wouldn't suit some buyers, but I would guess that you would be more limited, and you maybe better selling the seats separately. I would put the standard seats back in, and put the shifter surround and trim back as well, as Imo at least it looks nicer than as it is at the moment.

I would think that mods such as the TVS and 2bular are nice extras to have on the car as long as long as the price is reasonable, as they certainly aren't cheap to add for someone at a later stage.

Momo steering wheel - with the original as a spare would be quite ok...I nearly bought an Esprit and it improves legroom a bit.

The 'tattoo' is quite cool actually, and easy to remove vinyl decals so not a deal breaker. Yellow maybe not top colour choice but I lie it, on that.

The seats look a bit extreme, and if 'her indoors' is involved in the purchase it might be off-putting. Again, certainly not deal breaker.

I've noticed a lot of nice Lotus seem to stick on the market for months -or even years...and nothing new about that. With the rarer models this makes accurate market analysis difficult for both buyers and sellers, against a difficult current market for sports cars generally. good luck.

Thank you for responding.

On balance, it's probably best to return to original: seats, belts, steering wheel and trim tunnel/shifter surround.

The "tattoo" is personal to us. It is made up of our small family business logo. Will remove it.

Once again, thank you for commenting, folks.

Convert back to as standard as possible, it will sell better and reach more buyers.
The bits you have then taken off will fetch more money than they would be added to the car.

If I was buying
The only part of the modification/upgrade list that would raise a question is the seats

Tillet racing, while are some of the best about, are not the majority choice

The rest I see as added value

It's quite a hardcore car.. When I was searching for an Elise, I think the only mod on a car like that that would put me off is the seats.

If the original wheel and transmission tunnel come with the car I don't think they would be a deal breaker at all.

I'd agree I love that shifter assembly.

Covid interlude! Thanks for the additional comments and feedback.

I've possibly found a buyer for Tillet seats.

If your buyer doesn't work out, I could well be interested in the Tillets. Cheers

Simon - sent you a PM (about the car, not the seats).
